Very Happy with the End Result
WORTH IT
I had a face lift with Mr Tulley two years ago in March 2024. I decided to wait before writing a review, to be fully sure of the ‘final’ results. I’m very happy with the result and I feel the face lift achieved exactly what I was hoping it would. The scars are basically unnoticeable and the result looks very natural.
I had a general anaesthetic and was apprehensive because I’d never had one before. I think Mr Tulley only does face lifts under a general and I think it’s a wise decision. The anaesthetist (Dr Bhagrath) was absolutely lovely and very caring and set my mind at rest.
If you want to talk to someone who’s had the surgery, you’re welcome to ask Mr Tulley’s office to put you in touch with me. He put me in touch with a former patient during my decision-making process and it was very helpful.
You might be wondering why only 4 stars and not 5. I felt I had to take off one star because of an avoidable complication that made the recovery process a lot more stressful and unpleasant than it needed to be (details below). However, I was impressed with how Mr Tulley dealt with the complication and I think some surgeons, faced with the same issue, may have acted in a way that was more deserving of 2 or 3 stars. I felt I had to give 4 stars because hearing about other people’s much easier face lift recoveries, I really wish mine had been like that too.
— The complication —
During surgery there was some damage done to my salivary gland in one cheek. This meant that after surgery saliva started leaking into my cheek and causing a large pocket of fluid, which later started leaking out of my skin through the incision.
For the first few days Mr Tulley wasn’t sure what was causing the fluid, but he was very attentive and saw me for multiple follow-up appointments to drain the fluid and investigate the cause. About 10 days after surgery we determined the cause of the problem and it was fixed by having a different specialist inject botox into the gland to stop it producing saliva while it healed. When the botox wore off after a couple of months, it was completely healed.
Although we ultimately resolved the problem, the two weeks following surgery were incredibly stressful and worrying for me, without much support as I’d only told one person I was having the surgery. When I should have been relaxing, I was travelling to appointments with Mr Tulley every couple of days and feeling constantly worried about the long term outcome.
The side of my face without the complication healed so quickly and painlessly - I wish the whole experience had been like that. For a long time I could feel that the healing of the complication side was very delayed but finally now, 2 years on, I think both sides feel equally good.
— Why future patients need NOT be concerned —
This complication had never happened to Mr Tulley before after 500 face lifts and I’m really confident it won’t happen to him again, now that he’s had first hand experience of it. If it does, he’ll recognise it immediately and it will be dealt with very fast, so in that sense I don’t think it’s anything future patients need to worry about.
