The fix for a botched surgery

Cwhipped
$11,223
I had my face and neck fixed on October 21 by Dr brownrigg You can see how much better I look after the revision
When I posted pictures of the first surgery and the mess under my chin, thus is what one doctor had to say about Dr Bonaparte: ‘ I'm very sorry for your failed surgery experience you've had. As a triple board certified facial plastic surgeon it seems that a very accurate planned and delicate operation was not performed obviously. In my opinion submental fat tissue were removed, but the skin is not sufficiently released. "

Wow you look great now! Did you ever get the revision from the first dr? I've been totally botched also and do not want to return to my dr.
December 28, 2020
No. I was going to get it fixed by the first doctor, because he said he would do it for free. Although I was hesitant, money was the deciding factor. At the 11th hour, his office asked me to pay the hospital, fees, despite previously telling me that he would cover all fees. So now I had a doctor who did a poor job and I was being lied to. That’s when I decided I would find a new doctor.

Dr. Brownrigg did a great job. He actually gave me a facelift, whereas dr bonaparte only gave me a neck lift despite the fact that I paid for both. How do I know this? Bonaparte only cut under the chin and behind the ears. You can’t expect to get rid of jowls if you don’t have some vertical pull, which means scars in front of the ears and up into the hairline. It’s too bad surgeons don’t stand behind their work. It’s not that much money to them, but it’s a lot of money to the patient.
Good luck with your revision

I'm sorry. Is he going to correct that?
March 17, 2020
No. I won’t let him touch me now after he reneged on his promise to cover all costs of the revision. It’s a issue of trust. I already had my doubts, as anyone would if their surgery failed for no apparent reason. Of course, in an effort to save 15,000$ to fix it , I decided to let him do the revision. He’s now saying that he can’t work with me because I refused to come in for consult appointments which is a blatant lie. I was prepared to do anything to get this mess fixed. When I recurved the phone call asking for payment of hospital fees, I was dumbfounded. I insisted that he had promised me last October to cover all costs, but the receptionist said there was no way he would have said that to me. She wouldn’t let me does to him. I asked her if I had
‘’To take legal action to get thus fixed” because the office was stonewalling me. I never heard from him so I sent an email (see below). The following week I received a letter from him explaining that he couldn’t work with me because I questioned his judgement after the botched surgery. He has a god complex I guess. He also said I ‘threatened’ to take legal action, which I did not. My question stemmed from my incredulity over his broken promise and their refusal to let him speak to me.
Like I said, the true measure of a good doctor is what they do when things go wrong.

Maybe it's for the best, he doesn't seem trustworthy, ethical or skilled.
March 18, 2020
I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Thank you for making this public. Perhaps you are entitled to compensation through the courts?

I'm so sorry you went through all of that just to be devastated. :( I hope you can get it resolved with a different doctor. And glad you took the time to share this.

I'm glad you didn't go back to Bonaparte, although money is a factor I would not trust a doctor who failed the first time do a revision. I wonder how many face lifts he has done, perhaps he does not have experience in face lifts. You look great!

Stay away from dr bonaparte.

The mark of a true professional and upstanding doctor is how he/she handles a poor outcome.

I was expecting to undergo a face/neck lift revision in April but last week , dr bonaparte’s office called me asking for payment for hospital fees. I was floored because last November he said he would cover them and do “whatever it takes to make [me] happy”. He tried to suggest that I was to blame for a bad outcome because I stopped wearing my compression bandage on day 5, but that’s utterly ridiculous. All you have to do is search this website to see that the use of compression is only to reduce swelling, and at best a questionable practice. I am a healthy. I don’t drink or smoke. The poor result has nothing to do with anything I did or did not do, except for my choice in doctor.

The following email was sent on Wednesday February 12, the day his office said I should expect him to call me. I’ve been waiting for a call from bonaparte himself since Wednesday February 5. Nothing. Nadda. Unbelievably unprofessional.

The email:
I am writing to express my concern and dismay at the recent turn of events. Last week your office called to make arrangements for me to pay for hospital fees for my upcoming face/neck lift revision. Naturally, I was shocked to hear that you have forgotten or changed your mind about covering these costs for me since the surgery failed through no fault of my own.

I asked to speak to you on Wednesday February 5 and it is now a week later, and still no call. It is the business standard to return calls within 48 hours. It would seem to me that this should certainly be the situation in cases like mine. Since you led me to believe that you rarely need to perform revisions on your own work, I can only assume I am your only or one of a very few who have had unsuccessful results. The fact that I have not heard from you, under these circumstances, makes me feel that I am not valued and neither are my concerns.

On November 7 when we last met at your riverside office, you agreed that a revision was necessary to correct the hanging flaps under my chin. You agreed that other than the bands on my neck there was no improvement to jowls and that the hanging skin under my neck is an unfortunate result of the surgery.

I stated that I would like to have the revision in office to avoid having to pay for hospital costs. You said it would be better to do it in a hospital and that you would cover the hospital costs. When I left your office, I felt somewhat better, and felt that you were willing to do your best to remedy the situation and covering the costs of the hospital was a gesture of goodwill. It did not occur to me to get this in writing. I was assuming, that as a professional, you would honour this promise. This does not seem to be the case. I have ONE cosmetic surgeon, and what happens in your office is of the utmost importance to me. AFTERALL, we are talking about my face. You are one plastic surgeon with many many patients and therefore what happens in your office with me is not the singular issue in your head. We had a deal and now it seems, according to your assistant, this is being denied.

Your assistant tried to make me look like I was an idiot when she said ‘this procedure is always done in the hospital. It is never done in office. I’ve NEVER heard of that” as if I was making this up. It is common knowledge and practice to have this procedure done in a surgical suite and was one of the reasons I decided to have the original procedure done with you, as I was told it was an option. She insisted that you never would have agreed to pay for hospital costs and that requesting payment was your directive. You can imagine how shocked I was.

When the results of the surgery were obvious and I realized I look worse now than I did before the surgery, I tried to maintain confidence in you and our relationship. All one has to do is spend a few minutes on REALSELF to see that patients who require major revisions such as mine, patients who saw no improvement or looked worse after surgery have serious doubts about having their original surgeon perform the revision. This is common sense. However, patients feel like they have no choice considering the significant investment they have already made, and so we reluctantly sign up to go under the knife with our original surgeon. You are further testing my level of trust by reneging on your promise to pay my hospital costs.

I would appreciate a call ASAP as this is a very distressing. If we are unable to come to an agreement, I will have to extend my upcoming retirement date by 6 months to pay another surgeon to fix the problem. This is no small matter to me.

I would not trust this doctor to do a revision if he already failed first time. Perhaps a consultation with someone else might be better for you. I would not pay for anything if I was you.
March 12, 2020
I agree with mimibates!
Do you have any legal recourse to pay for redo?
March 12, 2020
Nope. We have to rely on the ethics of our doctors. That’s a tough thing to gauge ahead of time, which is why this site is helpful.
March 12, 2020
I am so sorry you have to deal with this. So unethical! I have been reading this site, trying to decide on who to HIRE to do this don’t know who to trust. Hoping for great results for you.
March 23, 2020
I totally agree with mimibates too!

See, and I think it's NOT helpful. It seems that VERY FEW people have the guts to show and tell about their horrific PS experience. I found a doc that I thought was great, knew people he did, (actually most of them were men going through FFS) but I'd seen him for Botox, Filler, knew a couple of women who he worked on (just neck lifts - which look good) But I can't even begin to explain what he did to me face. The back of one of my ears looks like something out of a horror show. Just check out the photo I posted and you will see I look like a freak. My eyes are weird (from the lower facelift) and he made my nose pull up on one side. IDK, it's been nearly a year and I look MUCH worse than I did going in. Except my neck. My neck looks good - but my face, OMG, my face... My ears, there are no words for what women go through at the hands of PS.
February 14, 2020
I am so sorry this has happened to you. I can sympathize for I have also had a botched surgery where the doctor blamed me. I am currently on day 10 post facelift/necklift.revision(not by same PS). I am swollen under my chin and am petrified on how it will heal. Best wishes on getting your revision surgery done soon.
February 14, 2020
Fingers crossed for you. It’s so unfair you have to foot the bill for a new surgeon when the original doesn’t stand behind their work. It’s tough to think of another profession that doesn’t stand behind their work and try to right a wrong. Must be nice to rake in the cash and take zero responsibility for a poor outcome. I would understand if there were medical complications, but mine is just poor surgical technique.

Did you new surgeon say that the revision would be more complicated than starting with a fresh. Canvas ? Lemme know how you heal.

Hi 1YellowRose, will you please tell us who the dr is? The one that did me wrong, Dr Standerfer, Dallas, TX. That way people will stay away from that dr. Thank you
June 13, 2020
Dr. Mario Diana. He was in San Antonio, but is now in Plano, Texas.

If you’re in the Ottawa area and want more details, please feel free to PM me. I just received a letter from dr, b, which completely mischaracterized (that’s a generous term) my situation with him. This is not about money.. it’s about ethical behaviour. I Decided to spend another 15,000 with a new doctor to fix his mistakes because, based on his behaviour, I no longer trust him.
March 3, 2020
I have more pictures to share. I had to remove them because a member was harassing me for not showing my whole face. Pm me if you want to see the rest of the pictures because you’re considering getting a facelift in Ottawa.
March 8, 2020
I am sorry about your ordeal. Maybe it is for the best that you don't have another surgery with that Dr. He doesn't have the skills. Even if it was for free, what's the point of butchering your face again if the result is not guaranteed. For the surgeon it is always a win-win situation where he either earn money or train his skills. That is not the case for us patients. We do not want to gamble with our faces.

While I wasn’t impressed at how badly my jowls and under my jaw turned out, I recognize that these things can happen. The real problem was the way I was treated when it became obvious a revision was necessary. The promise to do whatever it took to make me happy and covering the hospital costs vanished two months before my revision date. I was floored. When this happened, I decided I couldn’t trust him and found another doctor. He subsequently sent me a letter listing all the reasons (falsehoods) why he couldn’t work with me. Too late. I had already told his office I was done. It’s unfortunate that a doctor’s word is not good enough. Now I sheepishly ask for everything in writing and will bring a friend to all my appointments as a witness since no one allows recording during an appointment.
March 9, 2020
Oh, so now he "cannot work with you"? I thought the problem was that he suddenly want you to pay. Nevermind. That doctor does not have the skill. I doubt there was any facelift performed at all.
March 12, 2020
Wow! He sounds like an unethical, as well as unskilled surgeon. I hope you seek out action from a medical board or similar.
