I had my facelift almost 5 months ago. I wasn’t nervous about anything until I was actually in the pre surgery room waiting to go in. I started to think what I’m the hell am I doing?? The nurses gave me a Xanax to help with the nerves. Dr.Choi came in and talked to me, asked me if there was any area I wanted him to concentrate on and I said “the whole thing!”

I went back the next day to have the bandages removed, 3 days after that I had the drains taken out... that was fun- not too bad just a little stinging from pulling the tube out.

So here are some things that I’ve not seen in other reviews of facelifts or at least in the ones I’ve read. Your face is going to be numb- ears, cheeks- almost to the mouth under the neck. Doesn’t bother me at all, the only thing that did was my ears. If I rolled over in my sleep my ears would wake me up from the pain, I’m not sure why and I never asked my dr about it, I’m assuming it has something to do with the nerves. The feeling has come back now except for in my cheeks, which I here takes a bit longer.

Scars in front of my ears are healed up, being a guy and having a beard means having to shave behind my ears now and right up next to the tragus. I’ve had 2 sessions of electrolysis and one laser hair removal. Still need a few more. I’ve also had a prp facial or (vampire facial) I’m planning on having a few more of those as well. She did around my hairline and I can already see new hair growth. It helps with the scars as well. As we all know our lips get thinner with age as well so I had a little filler added.

My neck under my chin was not as tight as I would have liked so my dr, for free, removed a small amount of skin and some fat under local , he had tightened the platysma muscle by pulling it back but during this procedure he pulled it tight in the front of the neck like a lace up corset, I could definitely feel the muscles come together. I was talking to him during the whole procedure.

I slept and sleep on a elevated wedge with pillows on top of that. After surgery I also used a neck travel pillow which helps to keep our head from turning side to side while sleeping.

There wasn’t really any pain from the surgery. Now the nerves growing back is another story, sometimes it would be a sharp pain, other times just a tingling, like a feather brushing our skin.

I was really swollen in the face and my earlobes as well. It took a month or two before I could look straight on in the mirror and see my ears. The scars behind my ears go farther back than they normally would because I had quite a bit of skin on my neck that needed to be tightened . I think that’s about it for the procedure and afterwards.

I’ll add more pictures, it would only allow me to post 10.

AMAZING! Congratulations on going ahead with this. You look great and I'd love to the courage (and resources) to have a similar procedure one day. The results speak for themselves. You must be waking in air, my friend!

I've researched where I would like it done and they offer a pretty good finance plan. I will just have to substitute a few fancy meals a month for a couple of years ;)

The extra photos are awesome. You've completely convinced me. I'm DEFINITELY getting a lift within the next few years!

Wondering whether you had this experience that I am having….. 12 days. Face looking good, losing the bruises, lots of yellow - normal. My NECK looks like crepe paper!!!! ??????
August 7, 2017
It's super tight - should mention that - not like loose crepey skin, but the skin on the sides of my neck look awful. Nurse today told me just part of the healing process, am seeing the dr. in a couple of days. Had the rest of my stitches out today - THANK GOD!!!!

I honestly can’t remember- it may have somewhat but not now- I still had swelling for quite some time. I still feel some days I’m swollen and some days not so much , and that’s at close to 5 months. They said it takes a full year for the face to settle.
August 8, 2017
Wow. I love having the fullness since I normally have a thin face. I am watching …… very closely the nasal labial lines come back somewhat, and hope that this facelift has taken care of some of it. I am allergic to fillers, so cannot do those. With a thin face, I need them,.. Right now it looks terrific, but I know that swelling is a part of it, just don't know how much. Stitches removed today - can't wait to be able to use cover up there - I wear my long hair back on the sides….. !!!!! and I didn't tell my friends…. hopefully I can get way with it! My sons don't know bc they would kill me. Had one 9 years ago and they hated that I did it. Yours looks wonderful!

Thanks-only a few of my friends were told, no one has said anything to me if they do know. I would tell anyone if they asked me! Maybe try fat transfer? If you have a little extra somewhere? I know what you mean with the swelling, it does make everything look tighter and smooth..
August 8, 2017
Had fat transfer 2 years ago, but I work out hard, so I lost the fat - burned it. it burns the same as fat anywhere. He mentioned doing it again with this facelift (same dr) but I have very little fat anywhere and really, there is no point. I've told 2 friends only, problem is I have a bday dinner for my son next Friday - 10 more days. Thought I'd be safe, but I will need some good concealer for under my eye (he didn't do my eyes, just red there for some reason) and where my stitches were on the side. Any recommendations?

If it’s purple you need a concealer with a red, yellow, or orange undertone to counter the purple- I would go to Sephora or a MAC store and get them to help. Or since he is your child, tell him to deal with it? It’s your life, your body- luckily none of my friends thought anything of it, I’ve always talked about getting a facelift when I needed it. And why be ashamed of it or embarrassed? This why I put my review and my full face on here to help other who are trying to decide if it’s something they should do. I’m happy with my results. Like Dolly Parton says”if i see something dragging, bagging or sagging I’m gonna get it sucked ,tucked or lifted” lol sorry, I’m not trying to tell you what to do, just a little advice- but definitely go to MAC or Sephora they can help you. There are a lot of good concealers.

Haha! I agree! However, I told no one but 2 friends. Women talk - they gossip, and I didn't want to be the topic. My granddaughter asked to come over yesterday - couldn't say no - she found out. No problem. BTW - this is my third facelift - plus the fat transfer. The first lift did nothing, so waited 4 yrs and had another, and that was 9 yrs ago. So - my kids think I'm always doing something, and I hear about it - just easier if they don't find out. If they do…. so be it. My discoloration is at this point - only under one eye - red, and red where the stitches were. I am starting to play with concealer. The rest - the purple is going away daily, and I know I can cover the yellow that is left after that. Ironically my son texted yesterday that he has a CrossFit competition this Saturday. hah! I always go. :-))))) Will go to someone professional before my son's event next Friday night - it's his 50th birthday! Same age as you. :-)

Lol! I was thinking of asking you about your previous lifts- what happened with the first one to not work? I went back about a month ago for my dr to take a small amount of skin under my chin and some fat, the neck was much tighter than before but not as tight as I wanted. Genetically my mom and dad have chin to chest neck skin and I did not want that to happen, luckily my dr did it for free under local. I keep having to go back and get fluid drained out that keeps building up. I actually went today and it was only 1cc so that’s good. I get it, I know my friends have blabbed as well... lol so far I’m the only one who’s had anything done yet. Have you had PRP facial? I think it does an amazing job for the skin.

My first facelift barely did anything. I only looked good swollen. I did injections with Restylane for a couple of years - in the nasal labial lines - my worst area, and then had a severe reaction to it, winding up in the hospital, having head to toe pain, swelling and bumps all over my body, heart palpitations, chills, fever. The specialist I went to said I can NEVER (he repeated 7 or 8 times) EVER - have ANY dermal fillers again. Obviously I will not. He was absolutely certain my reaction was from the Restylane. He is Carl Lauter - a nationally known specialist. NO ONE doubts anything he says. The dr who injected me with the Restylane, and another - said it doesn't travel it the system; can't be from the Restylane. Two years later they told me - "We found that Restylane can travel in the body." Oh really? I know! I now have the wonderful distinction of being the only person anyone knows to be allergic to Restylane. Not happy. So 4 yrs after the first lift that did nothing, I had another - 9 yrs, ago - it was much better, but still had the nasal labial lines. They only got worse with age these last 9 years. BTW - that dr - told my critical son that the only reason he did the facelift was bc I asked him so many times. Bobby (my son) told me that. It wasn't true. Bobby's a lawyer; I think the dr was protecting himself. So right there, 2 facelifts and the dr tells my son I bothered him with it. Then I had fat transfers 2 years ago. Loved it! But - I work out hard. I burned the fat! I didn't know that could happen and wasn't smart enough to think about it. So - I pretty much lost it. If I knew how to put a picture on here, I could put one on with the result after the fat transfer - at my 70th surprise bday party 2 years ago. This one - the swelling is going down - it is 2 weeks, the nasal labial lines on top from nose to mouth corner - are coming back - not bad yet, but it is the lines under the mouth at the lower corners of the mouth that really age a person. That gives you "marionette" kinds. Those - right now are good. I hope when the swelling is down, they are gone, or much, much better. I, realistically think that some of it might come back, but hopefully I will be happy. My jawline looks wonderful. My whole life I've been told I look so young; people used to think I was my boys' sister, my grandchildren's mother. I'd like to keep it that way. :-) BTW - do not know about the PRP facial but I've used Retin A for about 30 years, and I know it has helped my skin a lot. I stopped once, and could really see a difference in my skin. It is "the gold standard" for your skin, dermatologist told me that. If you haven't used it, do it. But - you must build up to its use gradually and you have to know what to do, or you will wind up with sties in your eyes (if it is too close there), and red, dry skin. I am going to check out the PRP facial. There are so many things you can do. Something called the "halo" - but very expensive. Truthfully, with the Retin A - I don't feel the need for anything more. I'll be glad to give you advice on its use if you decide to use it. You would start with the mildest cream - not gel. … and pure Retin A - not a "retinol product." Unfortunately, it isn't covered by insurance. However, you can find coupons online. My pharmacy told me and I saved about $80 on it. Thanks for putting up with this old broad. ;-)

I’ve used retin a for year, I have a review of it. Mine was covered by insurance. It was prescribed by my dermatologist. PRP is our own blood, you could actually use it a filler in our nasal labial lines. Check it out. I love talking with you!
August 11, 2017
Actually, I did hear about this. You've tried it? This should be safe for me.
My Retin A used to be covered by insurance, not anymore. They said for anyone over 30 - it is considered cosmetic.

Mine has been covered for as long as I have been using it, hopefully that won’t change! Lol I have done one treatment of prp- I plan on doing it again. It makes the skin look amazing. And where she did it along my hair line, the hair is growing back in.
August 11, 2017
My skin looks good - I thank Retin A - and hormone replacement. Obviously you can't take Estrogen… :-))))) Also, my skin care products - NeoCutis. They are the best. I just need plumping. I see the swelling going down daily, am probably going to have to gain back the few lbs I lost bc I think my face will be too thin. Wish I could make the swelling stop now! Yesterday went for Botox and was given a lifesaver …. Luxamend. She said "I'm going to give you some magic." It is for wounds, burns, for cancer patients, etc. I used it only twice yesterday and have had a huge improvement on the incision site! I really need that bc my hair always is back - to some degree, even when I wear it all down. I don't even know how to do it to cover my ears. I just need to be able to use cover up. Going to buy Dermablend camo liquid. Seeing some of my friends on Monday… yikes! Also my son's Crossfit competition is TOMORROW! …. may not go, but I've never not gone. !!!!! :-(((((((

Wow! You look fantastic. I read some of your reviews on retina and then followed you over to the facelift thread. I have to say it is nice to see a man care so much about his appearance besides just pumping iron. Face is so important and you obviously were blessed with a very handsome one! I also want to ask, I live in Tampa so am a floridan like you and there has been so much that I have not been able to do because of my obsession with the sun and tanning. I have been using just fillers for about 8 years now, and just moisturizing I am 56. I have recently added a vitamin c serum and retinol 1 % , and some masks and am noticing a difference in brown or tanning spots, and I have still been tanning even though they say not to but the browns spots are diminishing so I say why not as long as I am seeing a difference! So now I am going to progress on to a retina product. I thought I would start with .25 or . 05. I also woul d love to try the derma roller I bought and some chemicals peels but because of my tanning I am scared to rty that. I wish I wasnt so natually light completed. I am not trying to be very tanned but just dont like being super white! So anyway, sorry to go on and on but do u still tan and I thought in your other post you said micro or I assumed you meant the roller, do u roll?
User Avatar
April 12, 2018
thanks! I do not tan as in trying to get one, I’ve been working outside now for the past few months so I’ve been getting a little brown- probably the darkest I’ve been since my 20’s. I haven’t been using the retin a since working outside. it makes your skin really sensitive to the the sun. I haven’t used the roller in some time either. micro retin a which is the pump and it’s a gel instead of a cream.
