Lower Face and Neck Lift

I've been thinking about doing this for a while and decided that the time was now. I'd noticed under my chin and neck starting to sag and jowels appear - I no longer felt that I looked like me unless I was smiling which gave me a mini face lift. I had been researching on RS for a couple of years to find the right surgeon but finally plucked up the courage to book two consultations with two surgeons who had two very different techniques- the concept facelift under local anaesthetic and the Turn back time vertical facelift pioneered by Dr Dirk Kremer. I was impressed with both initially but I was concerned that the less invasive concept face and neck lift wouldn't give me the long lasting result I was looking for, especially as the platysmal bands would not be stitched. However after meeting Dr Kremer and hearing about his technique in detail I felt this was the right option for me despite being a bit more expensive. I also loved the natural looking results Dr Kremer showed me of previous patients. So after a couple of weeks reflection I went ahead and booked.
When 24 July arrived I went up to London on my own. I had read up on pretty much everything and was prepared - or so I thought! Let me say first that this surgery is not for the faint hearted. There are no two ways about it, you are going to look and feel pretty rough for the first couple of weeks. When the head wrap bandage came off (which was super tight necessarily so) everything still felt so tight. Nothing prepares you for the feeling like you are being strangled which doesn't go away nor the fact that you can't move your neck. You can feel your stitches and it's not really painful but uncomfortable and claustrophobic. For the first week after I kept wishing I hadn't done it, I cried and felt panicky and hated myself. Be aware that this is totally normal!! There is a sort of mini depression that you sink into, you can't go out, do much or enjoy yourself for the first couple of weeks and being cooped up indoors to rest is no fun. However if you can get through this first tough period then it is so worth it! 7 weeks on and I am so happy with the results - Dr Kremer is amazing and Ali his PA is super lovely and very helpful. I felt I was in good hands from the start and no question was a silly question. Dr Kremer has given me 10 years back and I've got all my confidence back. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dr Kremer to anyone considering a face and neck lift - he makes you look like you again and not a wind tunnel look in sight!

In response to comments, please see more (non-smiling) front face pics which clearly show jowels issues. The only way I could get rid of these was to constantly smile!

Thank you! Dr Kremer was also pleased with it :) I am 49 and feel like 39 again!

You look 25!

Thank you! Once I was cleared by Dr Kremer to do it, I had some Botox in my forehead and some filler around the lips to finish it off from my usual aesthetic Dr who is also excellent. I had let this lapse as I didn't feel it worth doing again until I'd had the lift.

Hi Amber, beautiful result! Would you mind also sharing a non-smiling "after" photo from the front? I'm particularly interested in how much the cheeks can be lifted (mine have dropped...) with this procedure and it's difficult to judge from the one after foto (from the front) as you are smiling. Thanks so much, also for taking the time to post this review. It would be a huge help to update is in a few more months as the final result will only be visible in a few months.

8 weeks on

As requested, here is a ‘non smiling’ after pic, taken today, no make up and no filters applied, 8 weeks after surgery. I can still feel some tightness in my cheeks, behind my ears and round the jawline but nothing like it was a few weeks ago. I am back in the gym doing slightly lighter weights and resistance training on the TRX and am careful not to stress the internal stitches. Under my chin is now slightly looser but that means eating, breathing and moving is a lot easier. The skin will naturally drop slightly over the next few months as the tightness abates.

Looks great, what a difference to before! Is your left side still slightly more swollen, then the right or is it just the lighting in the fotos? Also, I was just wondering whether anyone who doesnt know about your procedure noticed (and commented)?
September 18, 2019
Hi anska-5, the main swelling goes down after a few weeks but the subtle swelling takes up to a year to subside. It still feels delicate and there is still some swelling. No-one has noticed though, most people don't know I've had it done. I've only just got rid of the bruising on the left side as I bruise very easily
September 22, 2019
Wow, I am surprised that people did not notice! The difference is huge, you look 20 years younger than before.

You look amazing and years younger, thank you for sharing, this gives me hope!! ;-)

I would be careful with judging the results so early. 1-3 months after the surgery, when the swelling is still present, everyone looks good. It seems like your main problem was that you had a lot of loose skin which was successfully removed. Did you have any platysmal bands too? My ears looked OK after the surgery, but then , when the swelling went down, I noticed that I had one pixie ear. I did not see it before, when it was still swollen. My surgeon was also Dr. Kremer although I am less happy with the results than you.

Yes I was warned that everyone likes it when it's first done because of the swelling and that it takes up to a year to settle. Mine is already relaxing and is not as tight as it was but I can move better. I did have a lot of loose skin which I think is genetic as all the females on my mothers side have had what I call 'wattles'. I have had my platysmal bands stitched as I had the neck lift as well as the lower face lift. I'm sorry you aren't as happy with yours, did you ask Dr Kremer to fix the pixie ear? I had a consult with Amir at Belle Vouz and he warned me about pixie ear and all the other things that can go wrong
September 24, 2019
Dr Amir warned you about pixie ear? Wow, I would not expect this from an experienced surgeon because stitching back an ear properly is a matter of practice, not luck. It is not something that can appear by itself after the surgery. Anyway, you were right to choose Dr Kremer before Dr Amir. Dr Kremer has done a good job on my cheeks and eyes, but the work on lower face, neck bands and the facial asymmetry (one side sagged more that the other) that I was bothered with when I first came to him was not as good. My platysmal bands are still there, even though the loose skin that was stretched by them, is less loose. But it is starting to stretch again and I can see it loosens more and more every day, I am developing a turkey neck again, just 7 months after the surgery. :( Dr Kremer did not do platysmaplasty (sttching the neck in the middle), he said it was not necessary, and a lateral (sidewise) pull of the neck would be enough. In the hindsight, it was NOT enough and now he is saying I need a platysmaplasty. I wish he could see it from the start. My pixie ear was supposed to be fixed during the revision surgery which was originally planned to December bu then the Dr changed his mind and said that I had to wait at least 1 year for it. Anyways, I am not an expert, but it seems like the loose skin was your only problem and it is gone now. You look really good! Let's hope it will not loosen up too much over time. 3-6 months is a good time to be able to start judging the result. Please, keep us updated.

Yes Dr Amir said that he has had to fix a lot of other surgeons pixie ears and to make sure I asked in any consultations I had about them. Is Dr a Kremer going to charge you for the revision? I would expect him to fix it and not charge if it's not as good as it could have been! I can't afford to get it done again. Trouble with loose skin is that it has a habit of coming back :( I will keep updating, I was going to do another one at 3 months in a few weeks time. I'll be interested to hear how yours works out too so do let me know when you go back for your revision

LOL, so Dr Amir warned you that OTHER surgeons can give you pixie ears, but not him? :) He has a number of dissatisfied patient himself, they have posted reviews here on RS. When it comes to my revision surgery with Dr Kremer, he initially agreed to do it but then suddenly back out. And now his PA does not even answering my emails when I ask them what to expect next.

I had a lower facelift with dr. Amir over 5 years ago and he gave me pixie ears. I went back for a correction with him, I think I had to wait post 5 or 6 months. I also felt like my turkey neck had returned not as much as ore surgery but I had not expected it. My ears was improved but I still had pixie ears.
