I had an incredibly disappointing experience with Dr. McInnes and the staff at Aesthetic Eye. In my opinion, the conduct here was unprofessional, disorganized, and not what I expected based on my communications with the office.
I have a hollowness in the upper eyelid area of one of my eyes, and I contacted his office as well as other doctors in the area. I usually explain my situation in detail upfront to ensure it is within a provider's wheelhouse before booking. I was told they could help and was required to pay a $200 consultation fee ($100 over the phone to book, and $100 upon arrival a month later).
The discomfort started immediately at the front desk. When asked for an emergency contact, I explained I don't have one. I am new to the area and don't know anyone yet. When the receptionist persisted by trying to get a family member's info, I explained that I lost my family in a tragic accident. She then responded with a grin and a dismissive, “Are you serious?” without even looking up from her screen. It was an incredibly hurtful and unprofessional reaction to a sensitive personal matter.
Once in the back, I felt heavily pressured to undergo photography and vision exams before even speaking with the doctor. I requested to be seen by the doctor first. When Dr. McInnes finally entered, his demeanor felt immediately aggressive and antagonistic. To make matters worse, he appeared to mix up my issue, assuming I was there for my lower eyelids. When I corrected him, he asked in what felt like a very smug, condescending tone, “And that bothers you?”
After running additional tests that felt entirely unrelated to my actual concern, he casually informed me that he does not perform fillers. This was shocking, considering I paid a premium consultation fee specifically for this issue, the business is literally named "Aesthetic Eye," and last I checked, the practice website included advertising for filler-related cosmetic services (see: https://web.archive.org/web/20260421013744/https://www.aestheticeyepc.com/cosmetic-non-surgical-services).
Feeling like I just wasted $200, I abruptly stood up to leave. As I opened the door, Dr. McInnes appeared to jump out of his chair after me and seemingly grabbed the door as I was opening it. For a moment, the suddenness of the action made me feel physically unsafe. As I walked out, he followed me into the hallway, yelling about not slamming his doors and telling me I was "not welcome"—a bizarre statement considering I don't recall slamming his door and I was already leaving of my own volition.
I subsequently sent a formal letter requesting a refund based on my understanding of the services offered before the appointment. He responded with a certified letter officially "terminating my care". I found it to be odd considering that I wouldn't dare return to him under any circumstances. I would never trust this provider or this office. Save your time, your money, and your peace of mind, and go elsewhere.
