Lower Eyelid Surgery Experience

After reading everything I could find about plastic surgery in Seoul, South Korea here's what I did:
I found some very useful advice on an online forum for plastic surgery in Seoul, namely, Gangnam-gu. I had 2 weeks to have my procedures and recover in time to return directly to work. Since I've never been to Seoul, SK and I've never had surgery before I took the advice of getting online initial consultations from SK clinics that other people were recommending and had good results. I avoided using service that find clinics for you because they send you to the clinics that PAY them to do so. and you can do it yourself and save yourself the fees they charge.
I first got online consultations from 5 different clinics including pricing. I then scheduled my consultations, most on the same day, leaving enough time to get to each one. I did not go with the cheapest one, as I feel you get what you pay for. Also, aftercare was important to me as I was traveling alone. The clinic I chose provided excellent customer service, there was no language barrier save for my surgeon not being able to speak English. I understood it very well jusy couldn't speak it well.
Initially, I wanted a lower face lift, plus eyelid surgery. I ended up not having enough time to recover from a face lift so I went with what I could get done which was lower eyelid blepharoplasty w/fat re-positioning, cheek muscle tightening, brow lift to address the upper eyelids and Botox to help with the healing of my lower lids. Light anesthesia was used, which was really easy to recover from. I was completely out - don't remember a thing. I was kept in the clinic overnight, had exceptional care! One thing to consider if you travel internationally and need aftercare is a translator: you might need to pay extra for an overnight interpreter. It was mandatory at my clinic for safety reasons but I lucked out and my nurse spoke English. The cost would've been $100USD paid in cash. If you're considering on traveling internationally for surgery, please make sure you stay in a hotel that has room service!
It's been almost 3 weeks since I've had my surgery and i'm so happy with the results! I'm still a bit tight, still can't feel my scalp but the feeling is coming back in my forehead. The stitches were removed after 4 days. There was no pain that Tylenol could'n relieve. There are no detectable scars under my lashes. You can barely see the incisions out of the corners of my eyes - they'll hopefully fade with time. I was astonished at how quickly the bruises faded! I had no visible bruising by the time I returned to work.
Sorry for the rambling review! But...I'm super happy with my results, I'd do it again. This site was a great source of information! Make sure to compare prices, make sure you're comparing "apples to apples" and make sure the clinic provides aftercare. and that your surgeon is board certified.
About the photos: the "After" photo is about 2 1/2 weeks after surgery, I'm still a tad bit swollen and it's still tight, it'll relax/loosen with a bit more time and I won't look so snatched! :)

Thank you for sharing your experience. You look absolutely amazing . I’m considering to have an upper eyelid surgery for the last few years , lies of research and the Real self is amazing . Now , I live in Canada and prices for cosmetic surgeries here are ridiculously high . I was thinking about US but reading your post and few more others made me think about South Korea . They also are way more advanced than North America in terms of procedures . Would you feel comfortable to give us few ideas about prices ? Procedures , anesthesia, etc . I think I can have more done and better with probably less money than Canada , including flights and everything. Thank you so much again for being so kind to share . All the best !

Thanks for the compliment, you're very kind. The reason I traveled to Seoul, SK was exactly that. They are the advanced when it comes to plastic surgery, especially for eyes! The first place I got pricing from was a joke. They said I needed additional procedures just to pad the bill. They wanted $39,000.00 USD!! The clinic was April31. So, I left. My total surgery cost was $9,100.00 USD. I had a brow lift, lower eyelids w/fat re-positioning, cheek lift and botox. I was administered light anesthesia (not general) which was included (it's much easier to recover from LA - no nausea) as well as 1 night's stay in their clinic that was also included and they fed me!. My meds were $80.00 USD. If you need an overnight stay you'd also need to ask about an English speaking nurse or you'll need to pay about $100.00 USD extra for that. I almost went with Opera Clinic. Their price for eyelid surgery was approximately $2,000.00 USD. And they were very nice! I didn't choose them as they did'nt want to do my browlift, due to time constraints. My issue was my eyebrows were too close to my eyes so I was not a good candidate for upper blephoraplasty - had to do a browlift instead to make it look natural. I went the cheap route with my hotel. So I saved a ton of money there. But there was no room service and I ended up going out for food. Most price quotes I got for eyelid surgery was about $2,000.00 for upper or lower. :) I think you can get it much cheaper but for me, I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. Good lick on your search! :)

Hi you look fabulous!! May I ask who your surgeon was????
June 13, 2019
Thanks very much! My surgeon was Dr. Kim, Sung Sik, MD. @ JK Medical Plastic Surgery Ctr. in Gangman-gu, Seoul, South Korea.

Damn what a difference, you look fantastic.

I know you did your homework but I still think you are incredibly brave. The results are superb and you look amazing!

Thank you, you're that's very kind of you. I just decided NOT to let fear dictate my life. If you really want to something go for it - even if you have to do it scared! If I'd waited for the "right time" I'd still be waiting. ;)

6 Weeks Post Surgery

6 full weeks post surgery. No detectable scars. The crown of my scalp is still numb but feeling is almost completely restored to my forehead. The implanted stays in my scalp are still dissolving. The only thing I've had to accept with the brow lift is my hairline got shifted back a bit. A small price to pay!

It looks amazing !
I have a question if you don’t mind answering me when you have a chance , you’ve been so patient .
I’ve contacted the JK clinic , tell them what I’m looking for they’ve asked for pictures and I sent . They suggested more things than I wanted and also Brow excision instead of upper blepharoplasty, but I guess once I have the real consultation will decide as you did .
My question to you , how could you get the surgery booked right after consultation? They have asked me for 10% payment to book the surgery , non refundable . The prices were also a bit higher and they were in KRW and they said they are not negotiable. So how
Were you able to book the consultation with few clinics and make sure they have a spot for surgery ? Thank you so much again for taking the time to answer me .

Wow great questions! Yeah, they wanted a non- refundable deposit from me too. I chose not to for several reasons. I had no idea if they were going to be a place I trusted. I chose to schedule consultations at several clinics first. Then, once I was comfortable with the consultation I booked my surgery. I got all kinds of suggestions from each clinic I visited. Some wanted to do major work! The first place I visited quoted me $39,000.00USD! I stuck with what I wanted done, but took their suggestions with an open mind. I thought I needed upper eyelid surgery but was advised to do a brow lift instead. Being a man, I wouldn't be able to hide any scars since I don't wear makeup. I wanted a natural looking result. Plus, my eyebrows were too close to my eyes so a double eyelid type procedure would look unnatural. I used a currency converter app I found on Google Play. Made it super easy to convert USD to KRW. But the conversion was pretty easy: $1 roughly 1,000 KRW. The app I used was called Currency Plus. I think I paid $2 for it. The tricky part for me was scheduling my surgery. I initially wanted lower face lift + blepharoplasty but the surgeon wasn't available. He was teaching in China for a few days. I had to wait for him. So, I didn't get my face lift - not a long enough time in Korea. You need a good two weeks. My entire stay was two weeks. So, I got done what I could with the amount of time I was there. I think the only way to hold a surgery spot is to pay the deposit. I didn't want to do that until I met with each clinic. Knowing what I know now, I'd go to JK again and just pay the deposit to hold my surgery date. But at the time, I didn't trust any of them. Honestly, I forgot to negotiate the in-person price quote. So I don't know if prices were firm or not. All the clinics will under quote you pricing via email. They're a for profit business. They all want your business! Once you're there in person they know you're serious and not just "kicking tires". Plus, they can really see your concerns in Tperson. I'm sure it's hard to tell from an emailed photo taken on a phone. I probably could've got my procedures done cheaper but I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. Plus, it's my eyes we're taking talking about cutting up! So I chose to pay full price. I was not disappointed! I feel so much better and I think I look good for my age. I'm 53 and spent years smoking and drinking and my face reflected all my unhealthy choices. Now, that's all erased and the outside reflects the inside. Sorry for the long response, didn't know I had that much to say! But any help I can give to someone else does my hear some good. I had to rely on the bits and pieces of information provided by others. This is my way of paying it forward with as much information as I can. Please keep me posted on what you decide, I love to see your results! :)

Omg you are the best ever . I wish I could meet you in person and say thank you and give you a big hug!
I do feel comfortable with JK now after I was in touch with VIP and MVP( few people here used those) , JK gave me the most details answers , they were patient and polite . The prices are higher they gave me about 2200 for upper ; 3200 for lower ; 2600 for non invasive thread lifting . They insisted in mini lift tho , and they quoted about 10200 usd, I don’t think I want that I’d prefer the thread one. And they said is no discount but you are right once I’m there they may do better . So from what you said I could still find a spot but with whatever doctor is available right ? Which one you wanted initially ? There is list of 7 doctors , I saw your results so I could book with Kim Sung Sik I guess . Maybe you are right having all the comfort I should pay a deposit just to make sure I get the doctor I want . But probably there are all good . Again your feedback is tremendously helpful , I’m so grateful . Thank you again

I'm glad you found the information helpful! JK has an anti-aging "team" that specializes in, well, anti aging procedures. There's only two of them. I met with the other one for aftercare as Dr. Kim was in surgery at the time. I can't really say anything about the other Dr. really, he seemed very nice and professional. But the anti-aging team - that's all they do. And Dr. Kim has been there for around 20 years according to the website. Besides my procedures being done by a highly skilled surgeon that only does eyes, facelifts and such, was the aftercare. Traveling to a foriegn country by myself, I didn't want anything going wrong afterwards. JK offered in hospital (clinic) aftercare as part of the price. I only needed one nights stay. If you're getting threading done I'm sure it will be similar. Threading is much less invasive that a full on facelift. They also have an in-house pharmacy. So no figuring out where to go to get your mess and how to take them. I paid $80 for my meds. If I had to do it again, I'd definitely stay in Gangnam at a hotel with room service. I went the cheap-o route and had a crappy hotel (more like motel) in Itaewon. But honestly, taxis are fairly cheap and from where I stayed in Itaewon it only took 15-20 minutes to get there. I'm so happy to share my experience with you! I hope you'll share b/a photos
