Thrilled with the result - it looks incredibly natural
Brilliant Surgeon
I know the importance of reviews so I've tried to write what I'd have liked to have read...
I had an upper blepharoplasty in Feb 2023.
I spent a long time researching both the upper blepharoplasty procedure and surgeons and Daniel Ezra's name came up in multiple contexts. Aside from his reviews, one deciding factor for me, even before our consultation, was his professional standing as an ocuplastic surgeon rather than 'just' a cosmetic surgeon. A key difference in terms of knowledge of the eye that many clinics will gloss over. Then the fact that he was so in demand that I had to wait almost a year for a surgery date also seemed like a good indication of his skill. Lastly, his consummate professionalism and manner. He was charming and very honest; under rather than overpromised results; dissuaded me from also having a lower blepharoplasty which I was also considering. He gave very clear explanations for his reasoning.
I can't stress enough how glad I am that I opted to wait for him rather than try to find someone else to do the procedure sooner. There are enough videos on YouTube by patients of other surgeons who were not 100 per cent happy with their result.
With guidance, I opted for local anaesthetic and it's important to note I am a less than ideal patient: needle-phobic and generally very squeamish. I wouldn't say I have a high pain threshold. But within minutes of the cannula being in my hand, I was out. I woke up when it was all done with no recollection at all. (In retrospect, I don't think I would watch so many patient videos as other clinics' patients had very different experiences that seemed to include very painful eyelid injections!)
I was ready to go home after 1hr 30 min - not in any pain or discomfort. Vision was blurred from the antibiotic so, yes, you will need someone to accompany you. But even immediately post-op I could see what an excellent result it was.
Of course everyone will heal differently, but I can't stress how quickly I recovered. I had minimal bruising and swelling, even in the first two days. I didn't need any painkillers. I had no pain at all.
I'd expected to need a full 10-14 days off but in fact after 7 days I was able to go out as even on the first day post the stitches coming out, scars were so minimal.
If it helps, here's what I did ....
I followed all the very clear instructions given to me by the clinic and iced (using two small bags of frozen peas) continuously and also cleared my diary so that I could just stay in and rest.
I tried not to look at my phone/screens but to listen to audio books.
I slept during the day whenever I was drowsy but did walk around a bit indoors from Day 1.
The scientific jury is out on Arnica, but I took it anyway, from 3 days prior to the op up until the day after the stitches came out. I also dabbed pure, strong Arnica oil below the socket line morning and night.
I took industrial quantities of Vitamin C - 5,000mg a day [not on medical advice!] and had stocked the fridge with lots of fresh fruit and veg, chicken, greek yoghurt etc. I didn't drink coffee, tea or green tea for 4 days - drank only hot or cold water with lemon or pineapple juice. I had pre-prepped some salads.
Again, I expected the removal of the stitches to be uncomfortable but Nurse Jo was brilliant - incredibly delicate and again she was very clear with care instructions.
This was the case throughout - I felt that if I were in doubt about anything - instructions, symptoms - I could access someone at any time which was really reassuring.
To sum up - I am thrilled with the result (8 days after the op). It looks incredibly natural; the scar is so fine and so well-concealed within the crease of the eyelid that it's already barely noticeable. Daniel Ezra and the whole team made me feel supported throughout - and I include the very responsive admin staff, nurses, and anaesthetist. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to him for other work.
