My Blepharoplasty Experience in Istanbul – Bad Experience About Dr. Ilke

After months of research and consultations in several countries—including Italy, Albania, the Czech Republic, the UAE, and Turkey—I believed I had finally found the right surgeon for my blepharoplasty. I chose Dr. Ilke Bahceci Simsek in Istanbul, a surgeon with a strong online presence and many positive reviews. Her assistants told me she often fixes other surgeons' work, and I felt reassured.

In late November 2024, I underwent upper and lower blepharoplasty, fat repositioning, canthopexy, and nano/micro-fat injections. I trusted the process completely.

Unfortunately, by Day 8, I began experiencing unusual swelling and inflammation in my left eye. I followed up with an ophthalmologist in Abu Dhabi, who treated it as an edema, conjunctivitis reaction. Over the following months, I visited the hospital four times due to persistent issues with my left eye.

In May 2025, I returned to Istanbul for my 6-month follow-up with Dr. Ilke. During the consultation, I shared all of my concerns and complications. However, she reassured me that everything looked fine and suggested the reaction was due to my body. She encouraged me to wait longer for improvements. She also mentioned that she had initially hesitated to operate on me because I had asked too many questions before surgery.

Following that visit, I consulted two oculoplastic surgeons (one Turkish, one Arabic) who confirmed several issues:

Upper eyelid ptosis on the left side, which did not exist before surgery.

Residual fat pads under both lower eyelids, especially the right.

Lower eyelid retraction on the left, requiring possible cantopexy.

Excess skin remains on the lateral parts of both upper eyelids.

No visible effect from the nano-fat procedure.

Unfortunately, I now need a full revision surgery to correct both the original problem and new complications that have arisen. This will be significantly more expensive and emotionally draining.

I’m sharing my experience to help others make informed decisions. Every surgical journey is personal, and while some patients may be happy, others, like myself, may face unexpected and long-term issues. I truly wish I had seen a post like this before making my choice.

Stay safe and informed.

My heart goes out to you.....You were right to ask her questions about the surgery! and everything it entails! That is your right! My revision surgery wasn't explained to me and i regret every minute of this revision. went in to pull lower eyelids up...only to come out with shorten eyelids.... one uneven eyelid and my upper eyelid pulled down....I was never told my eyelids would be shorten with this surgery. You have every right to know what the Doctors plans are. I wish you all the best in your journey..
