On 12/23/2020 I had a lower blepharoplasty with with Dr. Kotlus. He performed a transconjunctival (inside the lower lid - no external incision or stitches) ) to reposition the exiting fat pads. In addition, he performed a fat transfer (also known as fat graft) which help to further fill in the hollows and create a smooth transition between lower lid and cheek. Finally, he performed a TCA peel to the skin under my eyes, which will further reduce any remaining crepiness and wrinkles and will increase collagen production. Some people get laser performed instead, but Dr. Kotlus felt that this was a better option as sometimes laser can cause hyperpigmentation in this area.
I am 57 years old and this decision was the result of years of consideration, endless hours of research on the internet including sites like Real Self, Instagram, the ASOPRS site, countless Dr.’s websites, and three official paid consults. So needless to say, I took the decision seriously. These bags and circles are hereditary and have really taken a turn for the worse over the past 5 years. The crepiness and wrinkles are from age and sun and also contribute to my overall dissatisfaction with my under eye area.
My face is small and my eyes are big and I just felt like these bags were making me look hollow, exhausted and old.
While I knew I would only consider a facial plastic surgeon, I narrowed down my selection process to only certified Ocuplastic specialists, since they have specialized training in the eyes.
I do have approximately 50 units of Botox spread around the crows feet and the 11’s but the under eyes have been a real source of contention for me. I’d been told previously that under eye fillers weren’t a going to be a satisfactory option for me so I stuck to concealer and fine tuning my Photoshop skills! Friends tell me that my under eyes don’t look in person, what they look like in photos, but it’s really about how I feel about them, and they just don’t make me feel like I’m putting my “best face” forward, so I made the decision to permanently correct them.
I chose Dr. Kotlus because his credentials are excellent, his work on other patients has produced amazing results, his approach to my case made the most sense to me, he was very easy to speak to, his office staff was wonderful and he made me feel 100% confident in putting my eyes in his hands.
I’m including lots of before pics because I think if you are considering a surgical procedure you’re probably looking at yourself from every single angle - very critically - as I have.
These “before” pics are all from this week - only 1 without make up. I generally never go out in public without at least mascara and concealer, but to see the healing process, I felt it important to have an actual bare face comparison.
