Three years later, I am still extremely happy with my results
WORTH IT
After battling years of daily tension headaches, I visited an ophthalmologist who suggested that the headaches may be attributed to constant eyebrow-raising in order to widen my field of vision and to help appear more alert.I underwent a visual field exam with the ophthalmologist, which concluded that I have superior visual field deficit due to ptosis. The next step was getting this issue fixed.I researched surgeons in both US and South Korea (as SK is wildly popular for double eyelid surgery). I stumbled across Dr. Lay’s Instagram page and was impressed with his Before/After photos, as well as the fact that he specializes in Asian eyelids. I also greatly appreciated his honesty in his Instagram posts.During my initial call with Dr. Lay, he put considerable effort into understanding my problem and goals before making any recommendations. I explained my issue with my visual range and that I wasn’t aiming for huge round eyes; I wanted a natural result that preserved the overall shape of my eyes. He immediately understood what I meant and reiterated to make sure we were on the same page. He was also realistic about the results — immediate, short-term, and long-term.Not once during any of our conversations did I feel rushed or that we had skimmed over anything. After a thorough in-person consultation, he went into detail about the technique he would use — Asian eyelid surgery with anchoring technique and skin removal. He answered my questions comprehensively, and I felt confident I was in great hands.Right before the surgery, I was extremely nervous. However, Dr. Lay and his assistants kept a light-hearted, fun conversation with me throughout the procedure during which I was under local anesthesia. With my eager approval, he also gave me a play-by-play of what he was doing which helped calm my nerves.I stayed in San Jose for a week after the procedure. I contacted Dr. Lay periodically with questions and recovery progress photos. One week after my surgery, I had my stitches removed. For the next few weeks, I had a normal amount of swelling and bruising which eventually subsided to a socially comfortable amount.Three years later, I am still extremely happy with my results. Any surgical modification to your face is a daunting procedure; you need to make sure you absolutely trust your surgeon and his/her staff. In Dr. Lay, I was lucky to have found an honest, compassionate plastic surgeon who is not only technically skilled but understands his clients’ individual cases and goals.
