Eyes look natural; I've regained my confidence, and I'm no longer anxious

ORIGINAL POST

Dr. Taban is in a League of His Own

WORTH IT
Like the majority of the reviews here I can only say that Dr. Taban is an incredible surgeon and an expert on the eye. I should start with some background on my situation so that anyone reading this review can truly appreciate Dr. Taban's skill. A little over a year ago I went to have what I thought was a simple canthoplasty to raise the lower lids. In hindsight, it wasn't noticeable but became something I fixated on and decided to "correct." Perhaps the biggest mistake I made was to travel to Turkey for what I believed at the time to be a simple procedure. I'll spare details here, but after the procedure, my eyes were unrecognizable, taught, unnaturally upturned, and severely bruised. That instinctive gut feeling you get when you just know something, both physically and mentally was overwhelming. Over the next couple of weeks, the exaggerated upturned corners began to drop and then fell into an unnaturally low position that made my eyes and face appear as if they were melting.

Fast forward three months and messages from the surgeon in Turkey to be patient; it became abundantly clear that my lower eyelids were severely retracted. As anyone can imagine this created intense stress and anxiety for me and made it very difficult to see friends and family, especially as a man. I was certain that there would be little hope of repairing my eyes. This prompted me to conduct the research I should have initially, and luckily led me to discover Dr. Taban.

During my consultation with Dr. Taban, he confirmed my worst fears. The Surgeon in Turkey had in fact removed skin (a lot) from the lower lids that caused the retraction. The only way to repair this would likely be a skin graft. He also confirmed that my case was indeed severe. The idea of having a skin graft was unsettling, to say the least, but I knew I didn't have a choice.

My surgery was on July 7th, 2022, and as I write this, it has been a little over two months. My eyes look natural; I've regained my confidence, and I'm no longer anxious over what people will say/ or think when they see me, especially family and friends who know me well. I'm not the type to write reviews, but I felt compelled to do so and let anyone in a similar situation know that Dr. Taban is in a league of his own. I echo the sentiment of so many reviews here; his skill level is incredible. Please heed Dr. Taban's advice and only seek an ocular-facial surgeon for your eyes!

Do you mind saying where he took the skin from for the skin grafts? I am planning to go see him for my retraction. I too had mine turned up from a browlift. I did not want mine turned up. My eyes are so dry I can’t function all day some days. Be careful if you ever get a browlift. Only let taban do it if you do.
Every situation is different, but he used skin from my upper eyelids for me. I have naturally hooded eyes, so I was concerned that recruiting skin from my upper eyelids would alter my appearance and give me a large, exposed upper eyelid. Yet despite using my upper eyelid skin, I still have hooded eyes, and my eyes more or less look like they did before the surgery.
I just wanted to provide a 6-month update. When I think about my eyes pre-surgery vs. now post-surgery, I'm shocked at how natural my eyes look. I have darker skin, so one of the concerns I had about skin grafts was the scar they would leave behind. There is virtually no scar, and I cannot tell I had anything done. I had reconstructive surgery to correct a botched canthoplasty, not to change my appearance. Dr. Taban far exceeded my expectations, and I cannot stress it enough, if you have anything done to your eyes, please go to a credentialed oculofacial plastic surgeon.
