Doxycycline for Malar Bags

UPDATED FROM Zxc80

10 weeks after second treatment

WORTH IT
I had a second treatment about 10 weeks ago. It has gotten a little better, but the difference is very mild (I saw a bigger result after the first treatment). There are still ‘bad’ days where the bags are more present. I will go for a third round in a few weeks.

You didn’t have much swelling with the injections? I’m two weeks out and have a lot of swelling.
No only a few days. I sleep on my back with an extra pillow, I think that might have helped
It's really been stressing me out
I wonder why the doctors wife had longer inflammation. They just put me on steroids
Did it get any better?
Hello could you tell me your doctor and where. It seems near impossible to find someone and like you Im sure I've tried everything except surgery

Picture

A new picture, taken today. Difficult to get similar lighting, but I definitely see an improvement. I used to see the malar bags all the time when I looked in the mirror and now they don’t really bother me anymore. They are not 100% gone, so I wil get a second treatment in a few weeks.

Thats amazing!
How much doxycycline did he inject please?
Did you ever have filler there? Mine are caused by filler
Have you tried dissolving your filler?
Yes multiple times over the past year but still hasn't solved the problem. My surgeon advises against doxycycline injections as they can leave disfigurement. Unsure what to do now
Does he advise this out of personal experience? Might be lack of knowledge? Godfrey published 2 articles on doxyciclin treatment for malar bags in 2019:
- Doxycycline Injection for Sclerotherapy of Lower Eyelid Festoons and Malar Edema: Preliminary Results
- Evaluation and Timing of Improvement Following Direct Doxycycline Hyclate Injections for Malar Edema and Lower Eyelid Festoons.
My surgeon contactes him and he was very helpful.
Hi
No not personal experience. He just thinks it can cause disfigurement which makes me scared as I don't want to make it worse. Im really encouraged by your photos though. Ps Im posting under Philosophical and thoughtful as I got logged out of RS in error and had to create another account
Did your Drs wife get any better after it? Did it work for her too in the end please?
Hi please can you tell me the name of your Dr and where he is located? Thanks
I sent you a pm
I had undereye filler in spring 2017 and had it dissolved a few months later because of puffiness and tyndall effect. I had it dissolved 5-6 times before I was satisfied. I also had upper blepharoplasty in 2019. I think both filler and surgery made my malar bags worse, but they have always been there, even when I was younger.
My plastic surgeon injected a little over 0.5ml of 10mg/ml doxycycline on each side. He was a bit reticent, because he had only performed this treatment on his wife, so it was a bit of an experiment.
Hi
How is his wife now please? Did.it work on her too? Thanks

Pictures

Some pictures.
It’s difficult to grasp in a picture and get similar lighting. I still have some bags, hope they will improve more over the coming months. I can go for a second treatment after 4 months.
I did one profhilo in between before and after pics so this might have an effect too. I don’t think it does though, because I never really see an effect of profhilo on my malar bags, it does hydrate my skin very well so get an overall better look. I do it myself (I’m a nurse) so can keep costs down.
I also do scarlet s-rf every 2-3 months which at least temporarily improves the bags and overall skin condition (kind of addicted to that treatment because it makes it better for a while and then wears of again so I want more....)

Hi
How are you now please ? Do you think its working?
Yes definately. I used to only see my malar bags when looking in the mirror, but it seriously has been a while since I was bothered by them. They are not gone 100%, so I will go for a second round in a couple of weeks.
I’ll try to update a new picture
I’m having trouble finding out how much this will cost. I’ve thought about calling my plastic surgeon and asking but I don’t want to be embarrassed if it’s really far out of my price range. Do you mind sharing how much it costs or how much it normally costs? Thank you :)
What is profhilo? And I’m having a terrible time with malar issues and read conflicting treatment plans. I’ll take any suggestions! Please and thank you.
Have the malar bags come back? It's been 4 years since this post so I'm curious. I just had my 2nd malar bag surgery. The bags came back at day 4. I'm 2.5 weeks post op and my surgeon wants to wait 6 months before we try anything else. Doxycycline is the next step. Then I'll find someone who will do direct excision, if that doesn't work. My bags first appeared after getting fat injections under my eyes back in 2014. The first suregon removed all of the excess fat, but the bags came back. It seems doxycycline works best in people who had their bags caused by fat or filler injections.
