Panniculectomy - After Losing 133 Lbs/5 years later plus size liposuction and bbl
ORIGINAL POST
I'm so excited that I had my consultation with Dr....
WORTH IT
I'm so excited that I had my consultation with Dr. James Edwards from the Providence Medical Group today for a panniculectomy. He was fantastic and I look forward to working with him. He has great reviews on here. It's been a rocky road getting to this point but so happy to have made it. I started my journey in September of 2012 at 298 lbs and reached my goal of 165 lbs in January 2014 through hard work. I try to exercise 3-4 days a week. I use to go 6 days a week but because of spine issues I have to pace myself and be careful and I watch what I eat. I gained a little over the holidays(who doesn't) but I'm working on it losing it slowly. A little info on me: I'm 41 years old, 170 lbs as of today at the doctors, and I was 5' 51/2" which I always thought I was 5'6". I guess I lost a 1/2 inch somewhere. Anyways, as I find out more info about my procedure I will post dates and pics.

Rashes between my skin fold.. Yucky
I'm hoping I get an insurance approval fast before I get another rash. I can't stand them they drive me crazy. I scratch myself until I bleed and then I start to cry cause I get so tired of scratching. Nothing seems to help with them. I just want it all to go away. Here's some pics. Hopefully they post......

have you had lots of documentation from your doctor on these rashes and treatments you have tried? If so, I am sure insurance will cover without problem. I used to have horrible horrible rashes and actually the inside of the belly button got badly infected towards the end for me. Just keep documenting, take pictures..have your PS take pictures of sores, rashes etc. Good luck!

Oh yes, my primary care doctor has all the documentation of rashes off and on for about the last year. This last one started in October 2014 with the bumps and now my skin in my fold is turned brown. I hate it. It's so ugly. I hope when I have the surgery they remove all the skin with the discoloration.

that discoloring is from the skin on skin contact. I have it on my thighs really bad now...not to mention the horrible rashes and cycts/boils too. i had to have one lanced on my belly about a year before my panni...it was horrible! After my experience I don't know if I will continue with my plans for an upper arm and a thigh lift. I really want them...but I had major complications after my panni w/ hernia repair..so I am kinda frightened of more surgery now.

I don't blame you at all. I would be very cautious about having any more surgeries. I am very nervous about being put under the knife. I'm 41 years old and have never had any type of surgery. I've only had to stay in a hospital when I gave birth 23 years ago. Mine is suppose to be just a day surgery, so I will be going home within hours of the procedure. That makes me a little nervous too but I guess that is normal.

I have had multiple surgeries over the years...so being put under was not a concern of mine. I luckily have never had issues with that. Never had issues before this. When they warn you that infection is a possible complication they don't tell you have bad it can get. I am sure mine was from the Hospital I was at because somebody else ended up in the same nursing care facility as me and had surgery at the same hospital as me around the same time. Goes to show hospitals really are not the cleanest places. You will do fine. I have seen so many great results...and guess what..they were all day surgery patients. I am so glad you got a date....I know how hard it is waiting for that.

This is me exactly! I had gastric bypass on 10/31/13 and every since I have missed the weight and workout more I scratched until I bleed and I do it in my sleep. I also get the back aches and the doctor said was do to the excess skin pulling on my back. I am too working on getting the procedure done. But wanted to lose more weight first.

You do sound like me. If that's the case you shouldn't have any problems getting approved. Though I have heard that there are some insurance companies that straight out refuse to pay for what they call plastic surgery. I call a panni reconstructive surgery. Have you started looking for a PS or talked to your primary care Dr?
March 4, 2015
Yes but haven't found anyone to take my insurance as of yet. But I refuse to give up. So I plan to check my insurance company to see what is covered and what doctor is covered under the plan.

keep trying....many folks have lost weight after procedure because now you can really move it. You need an understanding female? MD.

I did finally find a female PS and have an appointment next Friday Jeupton93. So hopefully all goes well.

Has your doctor ordered NYSTATIN powder for you? I know about the yeast rash one gets. Under breasts, under the fold of skin over your pubic area, between the thigh and genital area. It's maddening, but the nystatin is a miracle worker. It's been so long since you've posted that I doubt you'll be needing it by now. lol

October 7, 2015
Thanks, but you're right I don't think I'll be needing it now. Though all my pants fall down under my belly now cause I don't have a waist and they rub under my belly. I haven't gotten a rash but my skin has gotten irritated. Hopefully with the new surgery I won't have that problem. I found a doctor way closer to me that I really like that's going to remove the upper roll and give me a breast reduction.

GOOD for you. I don't have a PS anywhere near me, I guess. I think it'll be a 2.5 hour drive to find one. Bah! I haven't had a waistline in TMYears to count.

I'm a nurse and ended in the hospital for over a month because the surgeon didn't put drains in when he did the panni. I woke up asking where they were. The lack of drainage caused fluid to build up and broke open all my sutures. I went for my follow up 3 days after out patient surgery. He said the sutures busted open and I had infection. As a nurse hearing my temp was 100.9 I knew I was in trouble and fully expected to be admitted. Nope, he wrote a script for antibiotics and sent me home. I went straight to ER! If I hadn't been a nurse, I probably would have died. I knew I was going septic. They did crash surgery and drained 3.5 liters of fluid off of me! I was draining 200 cc's an hour and was obviously infected. I was hospitalized for a month and now have to have the whole surgery over again. I'm not sure why or even how they are going to that but it developed a sinus tract at the surgical site and I'm once again not only filled with fluid but am leaking out of the sinus tract. What a nightmare!

Omg that's scary. I hope everything turns out for the better. I'll keep you my prayers and please let me know how you're doing. Did your abdomen start getting puffy with the fluid build up? Could you tell by the touch or looking at it that there was that much fluid?

Approved
Omg, I'm so freaking excited. I decided to look online to check if my insurance approved my surgery yet, not expecting to see approved cause I swear I check it every hour and last night before I went to sleep it still said pending. This turned out to be a great start to a Saturday morning. Yay.

February 26, 2015
I can completely understand. I only had 1 child 23 years ago and have a lot of extra skin in my abdomen. I don't know how much but I'm sure it's a few pounds not 20 but still can't wait to get it removed. I don't know about you but shapewear has been my friend since losing the weight.

How long did it take to get approved

March 4, 2015
That's wonderful news I'm so happy for you. I had my consultation yesterday Tuesday morning at 10:45 am so hopefully I'll be hearing something back real soon.

Could you tell me how do you check online to see if you been approved I never knew you could do that how can I look mine up please share information so I can start checking on mine thank you.

March 5, 2015
Oh, I can log into my insurance account online and from there they have a tab for authorizations. I just click on that and it tells me if I've been approved or denied for a procedure. It really depends on your insurance.
