Hey everyone! I went for an Invisalign...

Hey everyone!
I went for an Invisalign consultation with an Orthodontist at the beginning of February and was deemed a suitable candidate for the procedure. I was completely ready to start my treatment and expressed this, but I was booked in for an appointment two weeks later (much to my annoyance) for my iTero scan. I specifically chose this Orthodontist so as I wouldn't have to go through the horrible process of moulds!
During my consultation I had X-rays, photos taken of my teeth and a very informative talk about what Invisalign can offer me. I was expecting to be told I wasn't suitable for Invisalign due to my inflamed gums. My gums have been bright red around my front teeth for as long as I can remember. My dentist is convinced I have gum disease and doesn't believe me when I say my gums do not bleed. They may bleed once or twice a month when brushing and I brush twice daily for 4 minutes. I'm a mouth breather and can only breathe through my left nostril, meaning I sleep with my mouth open breathing through it all night and day. My Orthodontist said she has seen similar cases and that it's because of my mouth breathing that they're red... She said this before I mentioned anything about my mouth breathing. So that's a relief. As I've constantly tried every home remedy to cure gum disease and nothing's worked.
My Orthodontist (and her head Orthodontist) said I will need to have 4 teeth removed 3 days prior to picking up my first tray. Two teeth on the upper teeth and 2 on the bottom. The ones on the outer side of my fangs.
My iTero scan took just ten minutes and was so easy and comfortable. It's been sent to Invisalign and a prescription for my teeth extractions have been sent to my dentist. I will have to make an appointment for the extractions once my trays arrive in 2 weeks.
I haven't been told how long my treatment will take but I was told around 18 weeks and I'll need to use rubber bands for my jaw or something like that.
I'll update regularly and sorry this is so long!

Well, are you sure they took the scans and THEN told you to get the teeth pulled? I can't see the scans taken prior to the teeth pulling as helpful at all. I would double check this if I were you just to avoid potential problems.

Hey, yeah they took xrays and photos and some stuff and then told me that's what needs to be done. I did think it was odd to do the iTero scan before the extractions but they're the professionals so I never questioned it. They have Diamond status so I'm sure they know what they're doing?? :/

I had my iTero scan done prior to by extraction of a front tooth - When I went back for my clincheck, it just showed that the tooth was blacked out - I would imagine they tell them that, that the tooth will not be there. Best of luck! I am on Tray 2, Day 4 - getting attachments and tray 3 next Friday - Welcome!

Tray 1 and attachments! (+ update on extractions)

So I went to my Orthodontist (well, practice)... The ortho I saw for my consultation and scan was not dealing with me today. Very disappointing, I had a trainee put on my attachments and she was not the most warming person I've met.
So I arrived and went straight to a room for my attachments, they had some trouble as my mouth wouldn't stay dry after they dried it. They all set nicely in the end, I had the first tray put in and was briefed on how to care for them (was really unhappy with how rushed they was dealing with me, going to complain). They never showed me my clincheck, I'd never seen it but I reminded them and they said they had it on the screen ready to show me but forgot... Well obviously that's not okay, I asked the receptionist to show me it which she did from behind her desk, that was an exciting moment which was so rushed I can't even remember what the result looked like. I asked for it to be emailed to me and she said yes but I still have no email. Going to call tomorrow.
I was meant to be having all my pre-molars extracted before tray 1, they later informed me that I would be picking up tray 1 and having the extractions asap after. I have to arrange this with my dentist. I was told to have it done 2-3 days before my next tray incase my teeth move but now I've been told to have it done asap to help minimise discomfort for my next tray.
I have attachments on every tooth apart from 3 at the top front teeth in my mouth and the 4 little teeth on my lower teeth.
No pain, only feel discomfort when I put them back in for a few minutes. I expect these are just like a taster, say until my extractions?
The tray behind my teeth pushes into my gums and makes them bleed? they feel like they've been burnt and there's a little ridge where they're being pushed. :/
I'm going to ask about it when I call tomorrow but so far so good! :D
24 months to go! - 53 trays, the last 3 are refinements. Exciting! :)

Already a problem... (treatment extended by a month)
ryry97March 19, 2015
My dentist wont be able to extract my teeth before tray 2 so I'm stuck with tray 1 until my extractions, so ill probably be getting tray 2 in over a month. So annoying, treatment time has been extended by a month :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) is it okay to use retainer brite twice a day from next week? just really don't want these going discoloured seeing as I have them for a month.

Good question! I'm sure people will weigh in with their opinions. If not, you might want to post your question to the doctor Q&A. Let me know if I can help with that?
