48 year old Getting Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty Starting to Freak out - Encino, CA
ORIGINAL POST
I am starting the mental spinning on this...
WORTH IT
I am starting the mental spinning on this procedure even though intellectually I trust the dr, the staff, and the aftercare. I'm just afraid I won't be able to check out with the TV because it will strain/hurt my eyes. I'm also PMS ing so perfect timing. I think writing about it will help. This site has already helped a lot with knowing what to expect. I'm almost 48 and have been thinking about doing the procedure for a couple years. I'm going thru all the , "What are you doing? You're going to miss out on some important thing in life because of the 2 week recovery period. And you're doing it to yourself!" Anyway , please feel free to chime in. There's nothing like other people sharing their experience strength and hope with this. I will update throughout the process.

Day after upper and lower bleph
Day 1 after. Saw Dr. ( who's name will be revealed when I get further out in recovery) said it looks good, keep icing. I have been diligent in the icing. But I catch myself trying to do too much around the house and have to pull myself back in and ask "How important is it that you pick that up from the floor right now? " Healing will come more quickly at rest. Today I feel a little more swollen, heated and burny in the eyes. All of these things have been soothed by the compresses and eating a liitle ofetn with meds. I can post pics when I get my second wind- eyes are a little tired just from this paragraph.

Speaking from experience, doing practically anything around the house will make the swelling worse. Glad things are going well for you.

DAY 3- 2 DAYS AFTER SUGERY UPPER AND LOWER BLEPH
feeling a lot better today - I finally was able to sleep last night. I hadn't been getting sleep because of the having to prop myself up. I will list before and after pics when I can find a really good before. pre-surgery.

Glad you are feeling better today. I had a hard time sleeping on my back and propped up, too.

I just had this procedure in March. I took Boiron Arnica Montana, its an herbal for bruising, tightness and even pain. It is really good stuff. Really help with my bruising. You can get it at some Walgreens or a vitamin store. I started taking it before surgery though. I also had my nurse tell me pineapple was good post op too. It takes a while for ALL bruising to go away so be patient. Its worth the extra concealer you will have to use. It looks like they did a great job. Also, try to stay sleeping "up" as long as you can. That helps a lot. To prevent a painful experience when you get your stitches removed, make sure your stitches have little or no dried blood, meaning, clean your sutures with warm water as soon as your doctor says its ok and take some pain reliever before you go in. Hope that helps.

Also, the blurry vision will go away, but is scary. Mine lasted over a month. AND my Doc recommended liquid Vit E to gently apply (not massage) on the scar after surgery and I think its the best thing I have ever used! I even put it on my neck and its crazy how different my skin looks. He said no Mederma. Anyway, just wanted to add that too.

This is great advice about the stitches !Thank you. I am afraid of blacking out because of the sensitivity . will take pain meds and clean them gently but well

Thank you again, this board is saving me.. BTW I am taking arnica and bromelain (which I take regularly for inflammation anyway instead of NSAIDs) Vitamin D, B complex, probiotic, and of course teh antibiotics and packs they have me on. My only thing right now is my eyes look smaller and tho I intellectually know it's the swelling. It's strange.Did you ice every day ? Or just for the first 48 hours?

The first 4-5 days I had frozen peas tied to my face! lol. No too much but as much as I could tolerate. I iced everyday for a week after that (not every hour like the first week because I went back to work) and then even occasionally during week 2 almost everyday. I had a lot of weird swelling and it just made me feel better. Day 3-5 I felt like my eyes were smaller too. It is just swelling and the natural asymmetrical shape of your eyes too. You will see a dramatic difference after 10 days. Then after a month it will look completely different. Its been 2 months for me and I have seen such a difference in the past 2 weeks. Its still getting better even at this point.

Your results look great so far! Glad you are feeling better! I'm really thinking hard about having the same procedure done! I'm the most afraid of the recovery time and being able to return back to work after 2 weeks. Keep posting after pictures when you can!

I'm really glad you started your story here. Sorry you've been having so many doubts. You should be on the other side now. How are you feeling? Would love an update!
I had just my uppers done three months ago and am really stoked with how it turned out. I hope the same for you! Two weeks is no big deal. Enjoy the rest and you'll get through it.
I found that podcasts helped for days when my eyes got tired.
