Excessive Loose Skin from Weight Loss

After loosing six and a half stones, I was left...

After loosing six and a half stones, I was left with a lot of loose skin on my stomach and abdomen. I knew exercise would not make much difference and after loosing all the weight, I was very disappointed, I still could not wear the clothes I wanted to. I might as well have stayed "fat"!
I did some research on different private clinics and specialists and kept coming back to the Spire clinic in Elland, West Yorkshire. I was happy with Mr Mahajan`s reviews and the experience he had in Tummy Tucks. There is a clinic much nearer to my home but I made my mind up, the Spire and MR Mahajan were for me!
I had my consultation with Mr Marhajan, at the Spire in Elland in May 2016. He confirmed there was nothing I could do about the loose skin, with diet and exercise and in his opinion, surgery was the only answer. I had some muscle separation in my abdomen, so Mr Mahajan explained I would need a procedure called Fleur de Lis. This is an extended Tummy Tuck with a scar running from hip to hip and breast to pubic area. In surgery the muscles in my abdomen would be stitched back together. We agreed a surgery date for 22nd August 2016. Unfortunately at my pre-op appointment, two weeks before surgery, Mr Mahajan refused to operate because I did not listen to his detailed advice about stopping smoking!! I was so disappointed but only had myself to blame! The surgery was re-booked for 25th October 2016, on the understanding I had stopped smoking for a full 8 weeks. I did this successfully ( it was far harder than dieting!) and my surgery went ahead.
I had my surgery on Tuesday 25th October 2016. The staff at the clinic were the best. They answered all my questions and reassured my fears. Mr Mahajan performed his magic and I woke up, back in my own room. I had no pain and Mr Mahajan came to see me to show me the results. I was estactic, 5lbs of skin removed and a flat tummy. I had drains at both sides, which is a bit scary and limit your movements but they came out, one on the Wednesday and the other on the Friday. I was then able to go home and recuperate there.
No-one can prepare you for the recovery. It is a long road, one which I am still on. My scar was just a thin red line, crossing across my whole middle, forming a "T". I had no problems with it healing, thanks to Mr Mahajan`s insistence I quit smoking. The swelling is awful and hard to describe. I still have some swelling 10 weeks on. I cannot wear my jeans yet due to tenderness but I can see results and the first time I looked at myself in a full length mirror, on day 6, after the operation, I cried. It was like looking at someone else`s body. I had never seen my body so shapely, with the skin so tight over my abdomen and stomach.
I saw Mr Mahajan in his clinic as an out patient for four weeks after my discharge and now only have to go back at the end of February 2017. I know Mr Mahajan and his team are at the end of the phone if I need them and feel very reassured by their care, before, during and after, I could not have been in better hands.
Even though the recovery is tough, this is major surgery, I would do it all over again, in a heartbeat.
Thank you Mr Mahajan and the team at Spire, you will never know how much this succsessful procedure has changed my life! X X
