Dealing with open incisions

Last week I developed an opening on my vertical incision line. I freaked out! I have had such a smooth recovery compared to some, so any small abnormality has me on edge. I did contact the plastic surgery staff and have been nursing it with bacitracin (looks like petroleum jelly). My four week post op check up was on monday. As the surgeon had instructed, I did not pick at the glue that had begun to fall off as well as my dead skin on top. He ended up removing the dead skin and the stitches that were still in from my drain site. After returning home, I noticed that on the same breast that I had had the open incision, I had another area that needed some bacitracin. Ew. Unfortunately I also noticed that a stitch is coming from that area. It is the area in which the nipple and vertical incision meet. You cannot see the stitch in photos. It looks like fishing line. Anyway, I don’t go back to the doc for six weeks. I’m wondering if I should address this. It’s healing up, so I am not terribly concerned. I’ll attach some photos. Oddly enough, since he took the tape and dead skin off, my boobs have been sore. Also coupled with the fact that I am on my period. That’s probably the source of the soreness... anyway, everything is going well. I have been able to return to my job without any issues physically. I have great energy and am independent. If you’re wondering if you should go through with this surgery, without hesitation YES.

Loving Life

I’m pleased to tell you that I’m 3 weeks post op! Woo! Man, after week one, things have gotten easier and easier. My incisions are healing nicely, I have better range of motion in my arms, and I’m feeling great! Here’s a before and after of my chest in the same bra.

I have had a great recovery. I’m back to my normal energy, I think. I do notice that I need to rest a bit in between activities or I’ll get sore. I’m walking about a mile each day. Everything is going great!

Bye Bye Drains, Hello Freedom

Today I had my drains removed, wound vac taken off.
What a relief! I think I had the most pain coming from the wound vac and my armpit which has a swollen lymph node. My surgeon said he didn’t feel or see anything. He said my breasts are healing great! I don’t go back for 3 weeks! Here’s a pic of my boobies from the other day before the drains were taken out.
