Consultation review: I Left His Office in Tears Today - Edmonton, AB

I had a very traumatic year giving birth to a little girl with a life threatening syndrome called CHARGE Syndrome. She has had 13 surgeries in 13 months where I spent the last year walking the hard floors of the Stollery, sleeping in chairs and ripping out all my stitches.

Understandably, I have not had a lot of time to take care of myself. I finally am in a place where I can start to heal and decided to start the process through my plastic surgery consult. I had done a lot of research on Dr. Feng and was ready to book my surgery with him this winter. I was even willing to put my deposit down today.

The whole time I was in the consult I felt very uncomfortable. He didn't even smile or shake my hand. He just kept looking at his watch and was visibly annoyed by all my questions. He made me feel like I was wasting his time. He told me he would answer my questions in more detail once I lost more weight. AND if I didn't lose it to cancel my appointment and reschedule until I did so.

He promotes his business through giving mommy makeovers and boosting their confidence through trasformation. From the experience I had today there was no sense of compassion or empathy for this mom. He was not the least bit interested in my story.

No mother should be made to feel this way. He judged me before I even spoke……I left his office in tears today.

That's absolutely terrible I'm so sorry.. I have have heard good things about his work but negative things about his bedside manner but I didn't think it was that bad. I have a consultation with him in August and this makes me so nervous :(

Unfortunately bedside manner is not most surgeons speciality. Although I can't imagine how awful that was & it absolutely shouldn't have happened, from my consult & experience he is intelligent & does great work. Bedside manner vs a quality surgeon is sometimes a choice to make.

Thank you for sharing with us.  Time to schedule your next consultation.  I always recommend at least 3 consults to find the doctor you are 100% comfortable with.   Don't cry or feel bad, though I am sorry and feel bad that you are feeling this way.  Chin up and keep moving forward.

I have a consult with him on Tuesday. I'm uneasy cause it not the first time I've heard how rude he can be. I'm 5'1" and weigh 139lbs. Wonder if he thinks I'll be to heavy. I'm sorry you went through that. I just seen dr toy two weeks ago and will be seeing dr Edwards in two weeks. Toy is very pleasant and I hear Edwards is as well. Both have excellent reviews and do great work as well. Don't let it get you down. I suggest you try toy. I think you will leave with a smile on your face. I'm going with one of those three and will be having surgery in December with any luck. Hope all goes well for you. Let me know how it works out for ya. Maybe we'll have surgery round the same time and can go through the motions together. Lol

Thanks so much. I have booked a consult with another doctor but will try Toy as well. Hope you had a better experience then I did.

Good luck with your consultation. For me the quality of the person matters. I don't want anyone performing surgery on me if they do not have the right intentions.

Good luck, let me know who else you see. Maybe I'll add him or her to my list. See Chong tomorrow and Edwards in the 29. I'm sure your next experience will be a 180.
