Even more refinements.

Finished my fourth set of refinements which was nine weeks. Still not happy with a bottom tooth that slightly back from the others and there are still plenty of spaces between my teeth that I can feel when I floss, not to mention the black triangles that will never fully close.

Just picked up my fifth round of refinements today - nine more weeks and 14 attachments.

Getting frustrated and antsy. All of this is complicated by the fact that I now have moved three hours drive away from my Invsalign provider. I looked at the ninth and final set of trays in this fifth round of refinements and the bottom tooth still looks out of place, even in this last tray. Totally frustrated and wondering if my dentist is even listening to me at this point.

Round #4

Super quick update. Needing a fourth round of refinements. Personally, I don't think round three of refinements did much (at least that's visible), except maybe close the black triangle between the bottom two front teeth. Many large black triangles remaining though. My fourth set of refinements came in and it is 9 trays (9 weeks), and it was only 9 attachments on my teeth! The least amount of attachments I've ever had - feels good! More IPR was required on the bottom teeth and a couple of the top teeth. The main goal of these refinements is to fully straighten one tooth that's lagging ever so slightly behind in the bottom row and to try to close the black triangles more. I hope it actually happens this time!

It's been a while...

I haven't updated in a while. To recap, I began Invisalign in December 2016 with an initial 14 sets of trays. Significant movement happened with these trays. Then, my first round of refinement was 16 trays, from which I didn't really notice much in the way of changes. Finished that up, and then I learned I needed a second round of refinements.
That brought us right to summertime of 2017, and I was away all summer abroad without access to my dentist or new trays (as they had not been delivered to my dentist office before I left for my trip). So, for about 6 weeks this summer, I got to just wear my final tray from my first round of refinements at nighttime while sleeping to retain my teeth in position. This was great, because I didn't want to deal with the hassle of 24/7 Invisalign wear on vacation.
So, I got back from vacation and my second round of refinements had arrived. 13 more trays! I just finished this second round of refinements yesterday, again without really any visible difference in my teeth. I went back to the dentist office yesterday, and we are ordering a third round of refinements. The black triangles on my bottom 6 teeth are horrendous (where my teeth were most crooked), so I think we will be attempting to close some of those gaps. I hope it works, as I find the black triangles quite unsightly. We also did something at the appointment yesterday that I wasn't expecting. My dentist filed down the biting surface of some of my teeth that were jagged/crooked/chipped, and this has made a hugely noticeable difference in my smile. I keep looking in the mirror and checking out my new smooth teeth! I've attached a before and after picture for comparison sake, and you can see that the once jagged biting surfaces are now smooth. Wow!
So, I'm not looking forward to a third round of refinements, but I am happy that my dentist is not rushing things. I am also thrilled to have smooth/even biting edges on my front teeth - never seen them like that before! With this third round, I would like to see some black triangles closed and one of my bottom teeth to be aligned with the others slightly more.
In a couple weeks, it will be a full year with Invisaligns (and I was originally quoted 12-18 months). At this point, I'm hoping I will be done before next summer. Until next time!
