Hi Everyone,

I am getting ready for my surgery (sleeve gastrectomy) and I am on the two week 40 grams of carbs only diet. It has been going good, but I the nice benefit is I am sleeping better. Before I would go to bed around 11:00 or Mid-night and now after my last meal I am out at about 9:00 PM or 10:00 PM. Then I am wide awake by my work time wake up 5:00 AM or on weekends by 8:00 AM.

I will keep updating to give you a run down of what happens. A few items. I am 5'8", pear shaped as I have a long torso and short legs. My starting weight is 250. My procedure is set for 6/12/2014. I am excited as I have been preparing for a while.

I have been on every diet on the market since I hit puberty. It is hard to grow up in a school when you are 5'8" and everyone around you is 5'3" with a top weight of 110. Thus, I got made fun of and tried to be 5'3" ;) Now that I know I will never be 5'3" and I am secure in what I look like today. I feel I am ready to have the surgery as I am mentally prepared. I know it will be rough when I start to lose the weight, but I have a great team to support me.

I am so excited that the program I am on has two years or longer support by a dietitian, psychologist, and exercise specialist. I even asked if I could go to the psychologist more as I know I will have issues that will come up to work out.

The reason I am doing the surgery is a couple or reasons. My family has all the cancers, heart issues, thyroid, and diabetes issues. So I know either I will die prior to hitting 50 or will be diagnosed with one of the ones I do not have already. I would like to be around for my kids and do fun things. Thus I am ready for a life change.

I want to be honest on my issues as I would like to know if anyone has the same as me. You might laugh on a few, but I am cool with that.

Here goes:
- I have Narcolepsy (yes with cataplexy, but I am high functioning and am not like the person on Deuce Bigalow movie- I am hoping the surgery will assist with more energy as low carb helps with me staying awake, but I am not expecting an improvement.
- Hypothyroidism -
- Sleep Apenea - with C-Pap.
- Celiac Sprue
- Pre-Diabetic - Had large baby's

I will post pictures soon so you can track my progress.

I would like to know if you are like me or have had similar issues or are getting ready for surgery like me. If you have Narcolepsy I would really love to here from you about your surgery and how you are doing.

Welcome and thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Good luck with your upcoming surgery, I hope it goes well and you have a smooth recovery! I was pretty lucky, in that I really didn't have any co-morbidities except a very small amount of sleep apnea, but not enough to need a C-pap. However, within a few days of surgery my partner was waking me up through the night to check that I was still breathing, because I had gone from breathing/snoring loudly to making no sound at all. So surgery definitely helped with that.
