I had a mini tummy tuck a little over a week ago, I'm healing great, but I noticed the upper part of my stomach is still bulging out, I had torn muscles which he fixed during my surgery but now I'm still bulging on top and still have the discomfort as I had before. The dr said he couldn't do a full tummy tuck because my belly button is to high, I'm so upset don't know what to do, I feel he should have done a full and I don't understand why he didn't. My destasis is still there just not on the bottom of my stomach the top part only. If I have a full do I have to wait till I'm complex healed or can it be done right away? Also can they just cut from the previous incision up or do they have to recut that incision as well.

Can my muscles on top be repaired even, I'm freaking out.

I would be asking why he can't do a surgery with a 'floating belly button' where they cut around it but leave it attached, and sew it back into the same place after repairing the disastasis recti of the upper abs. I'm not a plastic surgeon, but I have a basic understanding of the procdure after researching it for myself and having a number of consultations with various surgeons. Your surgeon may be right that you can't have the full tuck in that there isn't enough skin to pull down, but he doesn't need to do that in order just to repair your upper abs - he ca lift you skin and fat layer up, repair the muscle, and then sew the belly button back into the same place? Repairing the muscle separation is necessary for a flat stomach to stop the bulging. I would be seeking a second opinion.

I go to see him on Thursday and I'm going to discuss this with him because I'm so upset I feel exactly the same as before I had the surgery. I def don't have enough skin I know that, but now I'm hoping since I already had the mini can I go back just to have the top fixed. I'm just so upset but I'll have to wait now until Thursday to see what he says I will keep u posted thank you so much!!!

Hello! My dr. Said the same to me. Basically I didn't have enough skin above my belly button to be pulled down all the way. Did he say it may be swelling?? I'm worried about bulging too! My surgery is this Friday!

Some of it is, but is def the destasis. That's my problem I have no skin, but I can tell especially when I eat I'm so u comfortable and that's the whole reason I had the surgery not for the look, which was a bonus, but now I'm so upset I'm going back to my dr Thursday I'm going to see what he says. I'll let you know

Yours looks pretty good, but I feel your pain lady. You can check out my mini tummy tuck regret story. No revision until 9-12 months after your original surgery. However, do be patient because there is a LOT of swelling in the first week or so. It is possible that you will be more satisfied after a few months.

I am going through this decision right now between a mini tuck and a full. I had 3 c sections and I just wanted a mini thinking that all I needed was from the belly button and below. I'm in pretty good shape and don't even have very much muscle separation according to the doctor. He told me the separation is only about 1 inch wide. I went to a few doctors and they seem to go along with me and say mini is all I need but then one doctor told me he feels a full would be better because there is still some looseness on the top half of the stomach and if I don't address that at the same time, I would have a tighter bottom half of stomach and a bulge more on top and I won't like that at the end. As for the recovery, it is pretty much the same time and discomfort. the only real difference is the length of the scar from the full is hip to hip and the mini isn't as long. This is what originally appealed to me but not at the expense of not being satisfied at the end with a top stomach not matching the bottom and the muscles on the top would not be able to be pulled tighter. they can't get to the top muscles if they only do the mini. also and most importantly, I was told that if you only do the mini, and then feel you need a full later, it is really not as possible to go back and do a full since they already pulled your skin tight from the belly button down and now to go back and try to do the top, they don't have enough skin to pull down again. That makes sense and I think I will go with the full so I don't have any issues later. I don't know why only ONE doctor told me this could be an issue if I do the mini and later don't like it. I think all the doctors should be telling me all scenarios so I can make the most informed decision.

Do what's going to give you the best result and fix all the problems!!! You will not want to do it again!!!

hi yes, I agree. I am trying to make the right decision which is really frustrating me because I seem to be in this "grey" area. the doctors aren't all telling me the same thing. A few have said a mini is good, and then 3 said No they feel a full is best. I wonder if the one's telling me mini are just trying to do what they think I rather hear and do or if they really think that would be enough. This is why I've been going crazy and I seem to keep going to doctors looking for the perfect response. I'm now starting to just think to go for full since they tell me the recovery is pretty similar as far as time to recover but that stupid scar is longer that I would have to get over. It all has to be better than the C section scar I have with the extra skin I have over it I guess! I do really thank you for taking time to reply to me. I am looking for help everywhere! I have same kind of issue about getting a lift alone or getting lift with implants. Some say they can just do together and others say better result if I do lift separate for incisions to heal before adding an implant if I feel I need later. They think the less tension on the incisions the better for healing and ultimately a better result if done separately. Doctor thinks I may not even need implant later. Who knows. It all makes my head spin and I'm trying to just get it done before I'm 80! lol! I'm 56 now and have been wanting to do that scar on tummy for about 5 years but never looked into it until now. Need to just take a leap of faith with one of these docs and get something done soon! I'm looking at this April to do.

I completely understand! I had 4 consults and all of them said I didn't have enough skin to pull down to give the best result. 3 said mini with lipo, one said a full! Then your mind is swirling!!!! I decided on a mini because I had no muscle repair! The Dr that several girlfriends went to gave me comfort!! So he ended up giving Hybrid mini tummy. So my belly button is much nicer and everything was checked, he did find and repair a hernia! I told him, once he was inside and changed his mind, he had my authority to do what he needed to do! I think you just have to find someone your really comfortable with that listens!!! I'm almost 5 weeks PO, and doing well!! I'm very happy!!!! So much luck to you my dear!!! It's a big decision!!

How are you doing????? Any changes???
February 13, 2015
Noo, sorry I've been sick and didn't resoind sooner but I spoke to my ps and he said he will give me an answer in a few weeks he has a meeting with other surgeons and wanted to get their opinion as to how to fix my stomach, I'm so frustrated. He did mention possible going through my belly button and doing it orthroscopically but he didn't know the long term out come of that ie if it lasts, how effective is it, so he wanted to confer with other physicians. So know I want to know if anyone who has had muscle repair orthroscopically, and their outcome.
