Ear Fold Treatment - Early Days

Ear Fold Treatment - Early Days

WORTH IT

Hi everyone,

I don’t normally write reviews but there’s not much on ear fold treatment which I found when I was trying to research about it. So I thought I’d write a little review on my experience.

So I’ve had my treatment on both ears, one in each ear, my ears weren’t really protruding but it was enough to make me feel self-conscious, I never wore my hair up without covering over the tops of my ears which is where they stuck out the most.

After looking into it I decided to have it done, I wouldn’t have had it done via otoplasty as a.) the recovery is quite long and I didn’t want anyone to know I’d had it done and b.) I didn’t want to be put to sleep over something that is at the end of the day abit vain admittedly.

So I had my consultation with the doctor and then was booked in for the 16th Oct to have the procedure. I was sooo nervous leading up to it, I’ve never had anything like this done and didn’t know what to expect.

The nurse who worked there was lovely and answered all my questions, the surgeon didn’t really speak much not in a rude way but he was literally there to do his job and in some ways it made me feel abit more at ease knowing he wasn’t just some sales guy trying to sell the procedure but actually knew exactly what he was doing and wasn’t making it as big a deal as I was making it out in my head (if that makes sense).

So on the day I went in and he took some before photos of my ears, he placed the clips on my ears so I was happy with where they’d be going, and then he marked on my ears. Then he gave me the injections, about 4/5 in each ear which wasn’t a nice experience they did hurt quite a bit but he did it very quickly. Then you lie down and they put a sheet over the side of your head with a hole so your ear is poking through and he inserted the clips which was a very strange experience because you can’t feel anything because it’s numb but you can feel the tugging of the ear and when he was stitching them etc. It wasn’t bad but I couldn’t wait for it to be just done, I think it was worse because obviously I couldn’t have anyone with me and there wasn’t anything in the room I could focus on like a radio or anything ha! But all in all, it took about 45minutes for both ears, and then after it, he took some more photos and gave me an antibiotic cream — I didn’t have any bandaging on or anything and felt no pain at all until that night I started to get pain when the injections had worn off. I took some paracetamol and continued to take paracetamol for about a week and a half but never more than once a day, like in the morning or just one before I went to bed.

Getting to sleep comfortably was difficult the first week as I’m a side sleeper but I was able to prop myself up with a small pillow so my ear was hanging off the top of it.

It’s been 2 weeks now and my right ear is great, no bruising or swelling now, and happy with the results but my left ear is still quite swollen and abit tender still, I don’t take pain killers as often now and I spoke to the nurse and she said the surgeon said it will settle but it’s abit frustrating as I cant see the results in that ear as it’s still swollen so still looks sticky out.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? How long does the swelling take to go down? If anyone could let me know that would be really appreciated. :)

Just an update, I had to have the left clip removed last week, it was infected so needed to be removed, hurt having it taken out but is healing up well, seeing the doctor again this Friday to see where to go from here. Bit frustrating as my right ear is fine and don’t want to have to go through the process again but will keep you posted.
Hi, how are you getting on now?
Hi,

Right ear is still great, really happy with result forget it’s even there.
Left ear has healed nicely since having the clip removed, just a slight scar on the front but nothing major, my surgeon said he is going to do the stitch method on it as taking out the clip can weaken the cartilage abit although it feels and looks fine he said it will match my other ear better as it’s not too protruding so was hoping to get that done next month or March but obviously with everything going on at the mo with covid I’m not too sure when I’ll get it done, can’t complain though as there’s bigger issues going on in the world than my ears! But I will keep you posted when I get it done and how it is:-)

Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Hiya,

Thank you so much for sharing. Really appreciate it!
Great to hear you are happy with the results.
Definitely keep us updated! :-)
Take care
Just one comment from my side, after 1-2 years skin has eroded more and more and Earfold implants poped up and had to be extracted (from the upper part of the ears). This is my experience. Just keep in mind, that this might happened.
