Otoplasty Nightmare Scarring

ORIGINAL POST

2012 Otoplasty Scars Still Nightmare

Drunderr13
Had an otoplasty in 2012, had terrible blisters immediately after, resulted in horrible permanent scars. Have tried lasers to reduce the redness, almost made them worse. Have tried any type of scar cream you could name. They haven't healed at all with time because it's as if the top layer of the skin on my ears is removed.

Do they hurt? It looks painful.

The pain was only a month or so after the surgery, I had really bad blisters, maybe a allergic reaction to the surgery or something. The redness has been like that ever since, I have to put makeup on them every morning. Going to take a miracle to fix it since it seems like I need new skin

Do not hurt at all, they did after a month or so after surgery but it’s been 7 years so they are more than fine now

Maybe an allergy to the permanent stitches inside the ear? That was my problem. Except my skin actually started rejecting them. Good luck you you~

I was thinking allergy or, do you have herpes? 90% of the population is positive. If you ever had a cold sore you could have it, or, it could be dormant. I bet that was the problem. Why not get tested, and if you are positive, there are medications, like acyclovir, that could get rid of the blisters. I am an RN and not a doctor, but I would be remiss not to mention this to you.

Advice Please

Drunderr13
Just looking for any advice on anything that might help my scarring? It seems like a some sort of skin graft for the ear is needed, as the skin is basically gone, although I am not sure if this is possible. let me know what you think. Thanks!

You can try talking to a surgeon who specializes in ear procedures. I do not know where you are but in California, there is a San Diego surgeon named John Hilinski who specializes in ear otoplasty/ear reshaping/macrotia surgery, He does free virtual consultations. Looks like a
allergy to something they used while performing the procedure. Maybe it needs to be taken out?

Is it possible your tissue is reacting to permanent stitches ? Perhaps they have to be removed and replaced with a different type of suture ?
