I had a great experience at my consultation with Dr. Coan, who will perform a "corset" tummy tuck on me April 12. I'll have an overnight hospital stay because of my age and medical history. He inspired confidence in me and my husband, who enjoyed comparing notes on their shared alma mater, MIT. Now if I could only sleep for 7 weeks and wake up to surgery day, all would be perfect.

Posting a before picture. I'm 5'4", 165 lbs. maintaining for a year, down from 280. 4 babies, 2 c-sections, hysterectomy, cancer, etc. etc. Hypertension, diabetes, lymphedema all in good control. Gastric bypass many years ago that didn't work like diet and exercise. Grateful to Duke Diet and Fitness and Center for Living for helping me make a lifestyle change in my 60s.

I too am an elder at 60 but only have a chronic illness but on no mess or need hospital stay. I sure agree that lifestyle changes are key. Did my first major walk yesterday and now with surgery that will slow down... But hopefully after we can continue our healthy later years. Good luck!

Ladies - 60 is the new 40...we are not ELDER! At least I refuse to give into that title and with our surgeries, we will have bikini-ready bodies, even though I've never worn one even when my daughter's age!

Congratulations on your upcoming procedure. You will not be disappointed. Dr. Coan did a full tummy tuck, breast reduction and lift on me 7 weeks ago. I couldn't be happier.

Can you please explain to me the concept behind a "corsette" TT? Not sure I wuite understand it. Might be something to consider once I understand it better. I too have vertical and horizontal scars from prior surgeries.

Only 2 weeks left!

The wonderful folks at Dr. Coan's office got me in for March 8. I'm so grateful, since we're planning a cross-country move. This will allow more time for recovery before the stress.

How do you handle the anticipation-excitement-nervousness?

So what is a corset tummy tuck compared the other kinds? What is different? How might it affect your recovery?

Hope all goes well on March 8th...one week till you are on the flat side! Yay!

The corset tummy tuck is kind of like the fleur-de-lis in that it involves a vertical incision in addition to the horizontal one down low, and also involves another horizontal incision at the top of the vertical one, at the sternum. My doc is doing shorter horizontal cuts on me than some get. The procedure is supposed to give good waistline results.

Re: healing. Reading others' stories, sounds like great variation. Time will tell!

Interesting...it makes sense to me. I have a very long horizontal only and 5 months out, it is healed over and barely noticeable! But when I am lifting weights now, I feel the tension there and have to scale down. ;(

I'm so relieved. My primary care doc repeated labs I had done a few months ago because a few results were not normal. Today's labs are fine. Pre-op in just 3 more days!
