What a difference a week makes
WORTH IT$15,300
Thanks to lots of antibiotics, orally and topically, and some fantastic TLC from Dr. Coan, my incision is 1000% better and my healing can proceed normally. Nothing to complain about but some itching, a good sign.
Pretty amazing how you wait, dream, imagine, yearn for the surgery for so long...then for a few days it's the worst and you're doping yourself up to sleep through it...and in no time you're feeling almost back to your old self. With one BIG exception. Flat tummy! Or as my husband commented when he saw my profile, "something's missing." Indeed. :)

Angry scar
This is 2 days ago. It's looking better every day as the antibiotics do their work.

Where is that scar? Tummy?

Yep, that's the belly button in the middle there. My incisions make an upside down T, with the vertical part starting at my sternum and meeting the horizontal at the bikini line.

I've never been a good healer
Sometimes you just never know how your body is going to react to an assault. I have a history of serious infections and hypertrophic scarring. (I used to call them keloids but Dr. Coan corrected me.) Anyway, not surprisingly, my incision is fighting back with a local infection and ugly healing. The good news is Dr. Coan is totally on top of it with multiple antibiotics and major TLC. Complications and all, I'm still so thrilled with the result and looking forward to getting past the healing process so I can go shopping and replace all my body-concealing clothes, in smaller sizes!

You are lucky to have Dr in your corner, my new hair stylist mom does this too. Having support and good thoughts is so important. I know I will never be able to be alone with any grand kids due to my chronic illness and I may have or other icky thoughts but what is "perfect" really but the best that can be. I am rooting for your skin to keep up the good fight (science nerd). Move that epithelium across the divide, get that collagen working below, bring in the healing blood vessels and lymph!!! Sending you all my healing thoughts.

Thanks for your cheerleading, Peggy. I love your nerdiness, and totally relate to your "perfect" comment. So nice to have peer group support!

We all hit our own personal bumps in the road. Just keep the faith - you won't even remember this hiccup in a few weeks. Hallelujah for your amazing doc. Sending healing energies!
