Overall rating

In March 2015 I broke my nose playing sport and had a family wedding only a few weeks later. I went to A&E in an Irish hospital; waited hours; they took xrays & confirmed it was broken. I was then told I needed to see a specialist, however it would take about 4-6 weeks to get an appointment. Not satisfied with this response, I researched nose specialist and came across reviews for Dr. Munish Shandilya in Whitfield Hospital, Waterford. Luckily I had health insurance and so could go private; otherwise under the Irish public system I would not have received any care for months. The sporting incident occurred on the Sunday; I phoned his office on the Monday and had an appointment for Wednesday. I met with the doctor in his offices in Whitfield. He went through the procedure with me; normally after a break; the injury is left to set for at least 6 months before surgery. However because of the upcoming wedding, he could complete a manual manipulation to improve the aesthetic of the nose with a view to surgery in 6-9 months time. I was delighted with this alternative to leaving my nose as it was and he completed the procedure the next day. The results were excellent and he had re-aligned my nose as best as possible without surgery. It was hardly noticeable in the family wedding pictures. I returned to sport later that season and opted to delay my surgery until the following June 2016. In addition, to the re-alignment, I also opted to have some nasel plastic surgery. I was never happy with my nose tip in particular as I felt it was a little too long and pointed. Dr Shandilya and I spoke at length about the procedure and I had 100% trust in his advise. I was having the surgery in any event to fix the break and so would undergo a recovery period either way. Having the additional rhinoplasty was the best decision I ever made. The difference is very subtle but it has made a massive difference to my confidence. I no longer have to face a camera a certain way or dislike my side profile. In fact, I now love my side profile. He fixed the break and made very slight and subtle changes to the tip to balance the overall look and I am delighted with the finished result. In addition to the actual surgury, I also must comment on the overall level of care received - pre & post surgery. I meet with the doctor 3 times before the actual surgery, and since the procedure I have had 3 post op appointments. The after care has been excellent. I will admit the first couple of weeks after surgery until the bandages and stiches are removed are tough; but I look back and have no regrets and can honestly recommend Dr. Shandilya without any reservations. He has an excellent bed side manner and is very personable - in addition I love the final results. The level of care I received in both Whitfilld and the Bons Secours was fantastic and always professional.
