I wish I had a dollar for every time someone asked...

WORTH IT$3,000

I wish I had a dollar for every time someone asked me if I have ever broken my nose. The answer is no. I usually joke, "the only time I may have broken my nose was in the birth canal." I also wish I had a dollar for every time my nose bleeds. In the winter it is at least 3x/week. I am having my surgery Dec 1 which is a little more than a week away. I'm no stranger to plastic surgery. I had breast augmentation (boob job) in 2011 and it was the best thing ever! I'm hoping I will soon feel the same way about my nose. I was once called a "butter face" in high school. If you don't know what that is, I recommend consulting urbandictionary. I first noticed I wasn't "pretty" in the 6th grade. My teeth were crooked, I was in desperate need of makeup and worst of all was my nose. By the time I started 9th grade, my braces were off and I had some basic makeup skills. I gained a great deal of confidence, but my nose was still a problem. Over the years I have learned makeup tricks, where to stand in group photos and how to tilt my head to always show my "good side". I have finally decided to pull the trigger and I am so excited! I will keep everyone updated with my progress.

I'm so sorry to hear that you were called butter face. You are very pretty! You have a good nose to work with -- I think you will have great results.

Thank you! My surgeon said the same thing. All he has to do is change the crookedness and the bump. He's not doing anything with the tip or nostrils. Kids are very cruel, but it is empowering to be able to change the things I don't like. My mom would always tell me, "physical beauty can change but ugly on the inside is forever!"

People don't realize how much their rude comments can effect us. If it's gonna make you happy, go for it! Good for you for doing something for yourself. Good luck with your surgery :)

Hi. I just want to say that you have some great make-up skills. I also have my rhinoplasty scheduled but for January 10th. I can totally relate to all your feelings concerning your looks. Someone, somewhere always made an effort to let me know that I am not pretty. I feel that my face is rather masculine with a big nose and a high forehead. After I get my rhinoplasty I plan on getting a forehead reduction and a boob job. My mom is really pretty and I often wonder how I got all of these horrible genes. I hope it all goes well for you. You seem like a really nice person.

I don't know it's hard to do makeup right -- I get really frustrated. Or I'll think I did a good job and go out of my house and whoa! I look like a clown at work. It takes a certain eye....one I do NOT have or it is hopeless, either one. Btw I like a high forehead! How can they reduce it? I could see raising it (I think Kim Kardashian did that by moving her hairline BACK) but how do they reduce it? This is directed to queen.maya btw

I have been researching ways to make my face more attractive for at least a year now. A more feminine face is always more attractive. I get hopeless with makeup because no matter what I do I can't get my face to look as feminine as I'd like. Each face is different but the feminine characteristics are always : low forehead, small nose, high cheekbones, big eyes, long lashes, high eyebrows, heart shaped face. They reduce the forehead by moving your hair forward. They make a cut along your hairline and the scar becomes less noticeable with time. But that surgery is approximately 7-8k lol. I'm also getting botox in my masseter muscle next week in order to get a more heart shaped face. I went to a facial surgeon and he only suggested rhinoplasy, fillers and masseter botox for me. It's Dr. Anil Shah in Chicago. As far as make-up I just use foundation and mascara because I feel that even with lots of make-up I don't look that good so why bother. I use a micro-needle and it helps make my skin really smooth, I'm always complemented on my skin. Also Latisse on eyebrows and lashes.

You should try sephora or MAC stores usually the associates there are good and can give you some tips! My favorite blog is maskcara.com also Jesse Preston on YouTube is great. Highlighting and contouring or HAC changed my life!

Have you tried bangs? I feel like my forehead looks smaller with bangs.
November 25, 2014
Thanks. Once I get my rhinoplasty I'll go to a nice salon and get my bangs cut. Most hair stylists don't know how to cut them. Once I almost cried when I saw the final product lol. Another time my husband said that he would do a much better job. Your bangs look really nice. Maybe I'll print out your picture and take it with me.

About Me

Just wanted to share a little about myself. My name is Jess, I am 28, I am a Registered Nurse, I got married in June, I have 3 dogs and 2 sisters that I am very close with. I was born and raised in Ohio. I love football and my husband and I have been Bengals season ticket holders for the past 3 years. When I had my boob job in 2011, I found this site very helpful. I decided that for this surgery, I would contribute and hopefully hope someone else in my shoes.

3000 dollars....this sounds far too little! And a little worrisome...but I don't know. All I know is I hate that we women are made to feel awful for our entire lives because of jerks back in high school -- like they were all that themselves! aRGH. It infuriates me that they have so much power. Screw them, a plague upon their houses. I like yr review and will be interested to see how it comes out....I am thinking I would want my nose tip refined. Also, I have a friend who doesn't like her profile and is always worried about that, and to that I say, just how many people are staring at you from the side? I mean, seriously! It's the front view that is way more important, I would think. When you are having a convo with someone you like/want to impress are you staring at their profile like a maniac?

$3000 is my financial responsibility. My insurance is paying for the rest.

ahh gotcha. Deviated septum? how does one know if one has this (I am surprised I DON'T after all the accidents I've had.) Is it harder to breathe? I always wondered what it looks like in there -- I mean literally it means to go astray from the path, so does it mean that it goes more to one side than the other? Or what? And why would that make it hard to breathe -- can't we breathe out of the one nostril at least?

A doctor can tell you. Also if you look in the mirror and breathe in really hard through your nose, if one side is more closed off it will collapse. Technically I can breathe out of my nose but because it's so hard, and my brain wants oxygen, I subconsciously breathe through my mouth. This means if I'm not paying attention, my mouth is gaping open like a codfish. A doctor would be able to tell you if you have medical problems and will use your insurance info to tell you what they will pay.

Hi Jess! I am 28 too and have been contemplating the op (I have a crooked nose) for a long time. Haven't scheduled anything yet, still doing my research on surgeons available in my country. Best of luck to you on 1 Dec! x

I just wanted to say that you are definitely not a butter face. You are already pretty. I understand that you want to fix your nose, I have had major issues regarding my own nose, but since I do not have the money to have surgery on it at the moment I am using temporary fillers such as juvederm to plump up my lips. I think since you are located in the US you should definitely check out Dr. Anil Shah, he has done operations on beauty pageant contestants and models in the US, so he definitely knows how to give you that barbie nose (if that´s what you want). If you are going ahead with your surgery and has seen good results by the patient, don´t forget to have fillers in the cheek and lips with a good filler like juvederm, many models such as Rosie Huntington Whiteley regularly plump up their lips with juvederm. It makes a big difference trust me. My lips on my rhinoplasty review page are altered with a filler called stylage (I am based in Scandinavia).

Surgery Day Recap

User Avatar
JessC11
Whew! What a day! The paperwork from my doctor's office said m my surgery was at 7am and to arrive 1 hour early. So at 4 am I woke up, took a shower, washed and dried my hair and set out for the surgery center that is 45 minutes from my house. I arrive promptly at 6am but no one is there. About 20 min later someone gets there and I go inside. They inform me that they do not have me scheduled for surgery today. They suggest I contact my doctor's office when they open in 3 hours. Very shocked and confused, I turned around and proceeded to drive 45 min back home. I was getting close to home when my cell phone rang. It was my doctor! He was in a panic telling me that somehow the surgery center messed up and he was just trying to find an anesthesiologist and then we could do my surgery. He called back and said we were good to go for 2pm. So after a nice nap, I headed back to the surgery center. They apologized for the confusion and even gave me a Tim Horton's gift card! Then they took me back but nothing seemed to go right. I couldn't pee so they had to put a catheter in, it took 2 nurses 4 tries to get my IV. It was crazy! I've never had those problems before! Ugh finally they took me back and then it was over! I felt really sick when woke up. It wasn't pain, just sick feeling. I go to the doctor later today so I will post another update with photos after that!
