Lipedema in my thighs...

I recently have come to learn why my legs look so bad...I have a condition called Lipedema, which are diseased (larger in form) fat cells in my legs from my thighs to my calves. Not sure if the surgery aggravated it but my legs started actually getting bigger after the lower body lift. The ironic part is, the only known cure is to lipo out those bad cells. The one thing I thought I was getting and didn't get. So now I must go to a surgeon and have a procedure called tumescent liposuction which is a water assisted liposuction which is lymph sparing, done on my whole leg from the inner, outer thigh and lower caves. Also I will be having some done in my upper arms as in latter stages it can grow there too... It's very interesting to learn about this as I have had it since I was around 14. Turns out it can be quite common with 11 percent of all women having it. If you have a abnormal body size, (smaller on top with larger bottom) fat pockets around the knees, and a ridge right above your ankles (resembling something that looks like you were wearing tight anklets) and also large swollen upper arms. It causes one to have very bad swollen legs, bad bruising and painful legs. A lot of women are overweight who have this, as many of us have a little too much regular fat as well, but I have now met several very thin ladies with it too... If you think this sounds like you, you might want to google Lipedema, the medical field is just waking up to this disorder....I am excited to be moving forward as I have seen some great outcomes after lipo surgery.

One Year later....

As I approach my one year surgery anniversary, enough time has passed to give a honest review of my outcome. Sadly my outcome is far from what I had hoped it would be. Simply because my legs were my worst battle scar from years of being obese. After years of being overweight, I was left with cellulite and badly sagging skin. When I started this review it was about having a long thigh lift, but when I went for my mark up the night before surgery I learned I would not be getting the long thigh lift but rather the inner thigh lift due to my excess veins. I had completed all the vein stripping and was given the okay from my vascular surgeon in Scottsdale, but Dr. G. still felt it was unsafe to do such a drastic surgery on me so a inner thigh lift was done in it's place. I have no idea how much skin was removed from the inner lift, I was assured it would be aggressive. In the beginning my thighs did seem better (with surgery swelling) but the lower area of the thigh, the bulge around the inner knee is just as hideous as before. The legs actually look worse today. I can't blame the inner thigh lift on that as it seems to be result of the hips being smaller now after also having a lower body lift at the same time, and not receiving any lipo to the saddle bags which now cause them to look ever larger and out of proportion. Turns out that due to the fact I am over 50 I did not receive any much needed lipo. So all in all, I am not sure how to rate, my inner thigh lift. The scars are amazing, very thing and faint. I am sure if my legs had not been as bad as they were, the inner lift would have been a success. It just wasn't the best decision in my case. I have recently consulted with a different Plastic Surgeon who is very proficient in performing the long thigh lifts and he feels he can give me the results I desire. He also will be lipoing the other thighs, as he goes by the general health of a individual rather than just a age. So as it turns out, as nice as my outcome was scar wise, it just wasn't the best procedure for me. I would have to say, if you are one who just needs a little extra skin removed from your inner thigh then this would be a great procedure for you. As far as pictures go, I will post some pictures at the end of the month as part of my LBL update.

No visiable scar line

Someone recently asked me to post a updated photo of my inner thigh lift scar. Not my best look by no means, but the scar is very faint. If all you need is a little lift to get rid of excess skin this is the lift for you. As it turns out, it really didn't quite do what was needed in my case since my thighs and saddle bags were my worst. I would suggest a long thigh lift in the case where one has quite a lot of excess skin and tissue....
