Now, when I look in the mirror, I don't see my uneven eyelid

Dr Amadi is the Best! (Double Eyelid Surgery)

(Will add photos later) An insecurity of mine I've had for a long time is that one of my eyelids is smaller than the other. Over time, this eyelid would sometimes crease into 2 or even 3 eyelid folds, and it really bothered me. I'd get a lot of makeup transfer, and I was just overall unhappy with the different shape. After many years of consideration, I decided to look into eyelid surgery this year.

There was only one issue: I wasn't confident a surgeon in the US was going to be able to help me fix my issue. When I was looking for a surgeon, many surgeons only offered blepheroplasty (removing fat from the upper eyelid), while I needed someone to re-create the crease in my eyelid, more like a double eyelid surgery. Although I am of partial East Asian descent, I am very white-passing, and I've had experiences in the past with service providers becoming confused. I was worried that because I'm white-passing, that doctors wouldn't recommend this type of surgery to me. Not only that, but I was more convinced that I would need to travel outside of my city to get the surgery I wanted. This type of surgery is very common in South Korea and many of my family members have had it done successfully there, so I was planning to wait until I made it over there to do the surgery. However, my husband convinced me to look for doctors in the US so I wouldn't be spending time overseas recovering. I picked a few doctors in LA, and also decided to go with Dr Amadi as the local option. I liked his before and after photos the most out of all the doctors I chose for a consultation. His background as a reconstructive surgeon also interested me since I feel this type of surgeon creates more natural results. I know he is not certified by ABPS, but because his specialty is Oculoplastic Surgery, I was comfortable with his certification from the ASOPRS once I did my research.

I was pretty unsatisfied with the doctors I chose in LA. They were recommending many other surgeries to me like brow lifts and doing both of my eyelids together, and didn't treat me with care. The moment I met Dr Amadi, however, I was convinced that he was going to be the right surgeon for me. He took the time to answer all of my questions and also recommended surgery for only one eye, as opposed to both. He told me that his goal was natural results, and that pleased me very much as I was not interested in a drastic change.

The staff of his office were so kind and personable, and I was able to schedule my surgery relatively soon from the consultation date. The office was very relaxing (nice piano music!), clean, and bright. I went in for the initial consultation, the pre-op, the surgery itself, a post-op, and a 3 month follow-up. That would have been pretty difficult to achieve if I had travelled outside of my city!

The surgery itself was done while I was awake under local anesthesia and took around less than an hour. I was cosy under a blanket the whole time, and even the injection of anesthesia was painless, which really surprised me. They sent me home with a goodie bag with chocolate truffles (!!!). Recovery was annoying, as I had to put this ointment on my sutures that really made it difficult to see. After a week, I was able to discontinue the ointment and had my sutures removed. If you have this surgery, I'd recommend taking a week to recover as it's pretty hard to do anything with extremely blurry vision.

I did lose feeling in my eyelid for about a month and a half after the surgery, and the skin also felt a bit tight, but that was the worst of it. Everything is back to normal now, and I'm so happy with the results. It's might be just 2mm of skin that was removed, but it made an insane difference in my confidence. Now, when I look in the mirror, I don't see my uneven eyelid. I just see... me. I can now live my life without this eyelid distracting me from all of my other good points. A burden was lifted, and it's all thanks to Dr Amadi. I'm so glad I decided to choose him for this surgery, and I would definitely recommend him if you're looking for any kind of eyelid surgery. If I have any other surgeries in the future, I'd go back to him for my eyes every time, and expect the high caliber of care and quality from anywhere else. They set the bar HIGH, and this was one of the best things I've ever done for myself. Thank you, Dr Amadi!
