I had a full tummy tuck and lipo on May 4, 2010. I developed a seroma and wound opening after 15 days and necrosis was there on 2-3 days but the PC never told me that, she said I was burned with the girdle..yeah right! now i have demarcated necrosis, my insurance won't pay for treatment and my PC completely avoids the subject by talking to me about other things. I have a hole opening where I drain constantly and have no idea how to care for it. I'm just using pads. I'm very miserable and have no idea what to do or how long I will be this way. I'm also diabetic and my sugars have been very well controlled.

I feel for you my wound opened too and it was scary. After a week of trying to find out what to do I finally got someone to talk to me. I have found what works is to soak a wash rag in water with epsom salt, then lay the cloth over the wound for about 15 min. Then take a shower and wash gently with soap. Next let air dry and then cover it with Xeroform gauze, it is a gauze that is soaked in medication and you get it at the pharmacy or medical supply store. I cut mine to only cover the open wound area. Then place a pad over it and your garment on top of it. Change the Xeroform and pad every 12 hours. This has helped me a lot. I hope this helps you.

Sweetie get to a hospital or emergency room immediatly! This is serious.Your wound needs to be debried and packed. As you have no clue how far down this necrosis goes..It cant heal until its been cleaned out and all the necoded skin and slough is gone. Also you would need antibotics. Please email and I can direct you to a few ppl that have had necrosis, one thats necrosis looked JUST like yours.
With you being a diabetic this is nothing to wait on.I hope the best for you!!*hugz*

Thank you, I have visited a doctor and will be seen by a Surgeon this friday. They wouln't give me any antibiotics anymore because I took 3 rounds already and I have no infection. They clean and dress the wound and I'm starting wound care. Yeah, I'm pretty scare of the final results in terms of appeareance, but I'm being positive and hope that they could help me. They are also working with my insurance and so far so good. I been really good with keepin this area clean and not letting it get worst...I habe been using a silver anti-microbial gel that has helped a lot. I do want to hear from pple that this has happened to them and how were the results after...TY again..

I've been packing my cookie monster mouth twice a day. The first time i thought I was going to die, and cried for a little bit while shaken, but I had to be strong and say well ain't no body going to packk it for me and I need to heal so here i go..I did it and now i feel more comfortable. I tell you I never seen anything like that before...I'm being positive and just praying that I recover well. This is a very scary experience I do not wish upon anyone. The one thing that keeps me going is the fact that I actually look very good and lost 25 pounds which had made my diabetes easier to control...so is not that bad after all...

i also had same problem with you and this is due to the tight binders that they instruct us to use after the operation. i discovered mine 6 days post-op. i just removed all these constrictive binders. wear loose clothing, dress the wound 2-3x a day using peroxide, betadine, place bactroban ointment and antibiotics like clindamycin 300 mgs 2x a day. after one week my wound has healed. i still dont use the binders again because it will retard the healing process. also one more thing i'm also a doctor and i kniw what to do. i really feel sorry for you because it's a very scary experience.. take care

Is been 4 weeks+ since I had the first debridment, I had 3 more aafter that and today I started the wound vac, my insurance only covered 3 weeks but hey that is good enough to speed up the process, after the last debrid the wond started to shrink, so it ain't as huge as it was at the beginning. I feel like amillion bucks except i'm not able to party too much carrying this vac...but i can't wait to heal!!

skin necrosis after a tummy tuck usually occur more frequently in patients smokers, diabetic, hypertensive and elderly women. It can also ocurir in healthy patients after being operated that not follow the recommendations of their doctors or patient that did ok but showing seroma that is not adequately drained. Whatever the cause is when there is skin necrosis the important thing is to make cures and debridement necessary to heal the area. This process usually takes its time but have to wealing to occur. After this is done the reconstruction of the area. This is a process that any physician or patient wishes to happend but unfortunately when it happens it happens and the most important thing is to have the patience to resolve the situation.
The patients who come to the country and then return abroad before long my biggest recommendation is to go where your doctor may advise you to give your track after surgery. As you regreses to your countries should continue your care since carelessness leads them to skin necrosis. Always contact your doctors and do what your doctors say to avoid major complications. After you heal it is necessary to to the reconstruccion of the area. The way I do it your tummy tuck will look like if anything happend. Try always to do the reconstruction with your doctor. I have done a lot of reconstruccion of patients from others doctors and let me tell you with no dout you will be very happy with the result after all you went thru.

Althought I went thru a hell of a healing process and I have a pretty ugly scar...I need a revision...i still think it was worth it and I would do it all over...perhaps I would of done a few things differently...however it was worth it...I rather have that scar than the ugly belly I had...I feel so much more confident and beautiful...
I'm so sorry this is happening! I would suggest you get a second opinion as soon as possible.
