MIAMI, FL -
A Naples mother of five died after plastic surgery at a clinic in the Miami area. She was hoping to look younger, but she never made it home.
Reports say Maribel Cardona, 51, died from complications after a Brazilian butt lift surgery performed at Vanity Cosmetic Center.
Cardona tried to cancel the procedure after warnings from her family, but the clinic reportedly told her they would not refund her down payment of $4,000.
So Cardona, a Walmart cashier, went ahead with the surgery.
She started having breathing problems in the recovery room and was rushed to a nearby hospital where she died from a lung blockage.
According to an autopsy report, the cause of death was "fat emboli complicating cosmetic liposuction and fat transfer surgery."
Tonight, family friends tell us she was a sweet woman who loved music.
We're also learning more about the doctor, Anthony Hasan, who performed the operation on Cardona. You can see him in a video from a Spanish television news station posted online talking about his skills as a doctor.
Hasan's still listed as working here at Vanity Clinic, touting his work with breast augmentations.
This morning, staff here hung up on us. So we traveled to Miami trying to track down the doctor. Those inside the office didn't want to talk about the Southwest Florida mother -- claiming they stand by their work and did nothing wrong.

After comfirming my date... i never had the chance to ever get the surgery..
money problems came up.. And then found out that I was pregnant.. I am currently 5 months pregnant...after I have this baby ... I will be getting my tubes tied. clipped and burnt!.. Atleast I have saved up all the money for this surgery.... All I am doing right now is waiting to drop this baby.. I guess it was a good thing thinking about it ... For a minute i was about to just give up.. But I just started saving... so now I don't have to borrow any money... I have all the money and I will be getting it done this year.... hopefully in July or August... I lost a lot of weight to I was 5'7 190.. but with this baby I was so sick and lost weight so I am 160 and I look skinny at this weight but I still have some time and weight to gain before I have my baby so I should be ready.. Until then.

Dr. Salama.. I love his work and after doing all my research i decided that he would be the best for me.. New date june 23rd.. it seems so far away but he wis worth the wait...plus that will give me more then enough time to save up for hotel stay me and hubby will be going together... so im excited and very confident with my new decision.
