After years of going up and down in weight, and hitting 43yrs old and only 5ft 2in, i took the step to get a lap band fitted to stop me eating so much. No matter what amount of food i have, im never satisfied. I decided to go to the hospital group in Bromsgrove, my surgery was carried out by Dr Nijjar. My surgery went without hitch, however the shoulder pain was unbelievable, i was warned, but did not expect such deep pain. I stayed in overnight and was discharged the next day. Im now a week post surgery. So far theres obvious weight loss as im on a liquid diet. im not particularly hungry as i have a constant feeling of indigestion like pain. My scars are healing very well, but the port hole is protruding out of my stomach like a little alien. Im trying to keep a positive mind and put it down to swelling, i guess time will tell.

Nice doctor but i did wonder why no examination was done of my stomach area prior to surgery. Having had liposuction previously on my stomach, i would have expected at least an examination. Not a very personable doctor, but i guess as long as he is qualified to do my surgery thats not exactly essential.

Hi there, and welcome! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. I hope you'll get lots of support from the community. How did you cope with the shoulder pain?

The shoulder pain was a real shock, i was warned but didnt realise the severity of it. lots of morphene knocked me out, but a week on and its just subsiding. do not underestimate the pain it gives though.

Hi, i only had my op on the 10th jan but had a second op last week to move the port. i have to say no results yet, to be expected. However, i would not recommend the hospital group, its been awful for me, even yesterday they couldnt get my appointment right for my first fill, three calls later and i still dont know if its next week or not. i had no contact off anyone for 10 days and when i did it was only due to the complaint letter i sent them. i hate to be negative to you, but i wish someone had told me before i went there.

Hi I have had, my lapband in June 4 yes abd have lost 110 pounds. My BM I was at 50 now is 30. I used to weigh 278 now 168. HE had no problems with my band but getting somewhat fearful as ti leaving my lapband doctor because moving to do RV traveling lifestyle. My question is thus you 1. My doctor is no longer installing the lapband but doing the sleeve procedure. I was told that if something goes wrong with my band abd gas to be removed I could have the sleeve installed. Great. But doctor's office now say I woukd have regain at least 30 pounds to be able to have the sleeve. That would make me at 190. REALLY
I was curious if your BM I is at 31 that your doctor installed the lapband because I thought everyone had to 35 BM I minimum. 2. My second question is this does your doctor still install lapband is your area?
If you would be so kind in responding back to me either by calling me at 417-379-1108 or email me at, markopp5824@gmail.com.

I had surgery at the Hospital Group in April 2016 and I cannot fault them. They have met all my expectations with after care. You don't hear from them for a few weeks after surgery but I was told this after having a lap band. My surgery was with Dr Super at bromsgrove. The pain in your shoulder is trapped wind and I had it for weeks! At one point I thought I had a trapped nerve the pain was so bad. The only down side for me is I haven't lost as much weight as I expected but think I was expecting it to drop off within the first year. Every time I see a dietician I do feel I am lectured on what I should be eating. It's incredibly hard to have a perfect diet when I work unsocial shifts, nights etc. It's about finding a way that works for the individual. I was a little miffed to be told I should now follow a weight watchers diet if I wanted a faster weight loss. I do feel a little deflated after having my appointment that all I'm told is the average weight loss is 1-2lbs a week and I'm only targeting slightly under 1lb a week. Currently my band is filled with 5mls of saline. Hopefully the weight loss will continue.

I went to see the nurse and doctor after 8 days, scars are healing fantastic. The nurse agrees my port is really sticking out and after i do lose my weight its just going to get worse. She recommended i speak to the doctor who i was nervous about as its always lets wait and see to kind of fob you off. However, he was really good, he agreed it sticks out but explained why it was so difficult as i had liposuction previously so my fat on my stomach is low anyway. He explained he can move it to my hip side where he can sew it onto my muscle, but as its a round muscle it doesnt sit flat, therfore theres a risk of it flipping. I explained how i feel im leaning on the port when i fold over and due to my job as a marine biologist, i live in wetsuits and bikinis. im worried the wetsuit tightness on my rib cage will be affected and potentially it will be better on my hip. I need to do some research and speak to a few people before going back to make my decision as to whether or not to have it moved. weight loss after 8 days is 9kg so very pleased.

so last week i had the port moved to my left side after insisting i didnt want to be left with an alien sticking out my stomach. Very bruised but nothing unexpected and everyday gets better. ive had 2mm put in the band and its made no difference yet. i expect between 4-6 fills before i find the limit that suits me. scars healing really well. i have eaten everything ive wanted, normal consistency since week 2, no problems, no restrictions, all good.

How are you doing now???
I hope you are healing well
Do you have any problems with certain foods?
February 24, 2016
hi, so i had my second fill on thursday, im now at 3.5mm
i was having some food stuck in my throat that i would wash down with fluid, until i spoke with the dietician. i wasnt chewing my food enough, i was also having too big fork full, so since then, ive chewed, chewed chewed and reduced my portion on my fork. since doing so ive had no problem whatsoever. still can eat lots and dont feel full. patience is a virtue so ill see how this fill is.
