Disappointed with Breast Reduction

Disappointed with Breast Reduction

csp7
Dr. John Pedersen performed a breast reduction on my right breast for symmetry in 2020. After the swelling went down, I realized my breast was much larger than the left breast, including the areola. *** Dr. Pedersen had performed a reduction during breast cancer surgery on my left breast. I was very disappointed because the doctor advised me to wait a year before having the reduction on my right breast because my left breast would certainly get smaller with radiation treatment. So I waited. But I don't feel good about my breasts because I don't feel the reduction on my right breast was successful. After waiting so long to have the surgery done, I'm not happy. I read all the other reviews saying how successful their breast reductions were, and I think I'm an anomaly. Perhaps not but I don't want to pay for revision surgery.

Update/Edit--I am attaching a current picture of my breasts 11 months after the breast reduction. I thought this will give a more specific explanation why I am so disappointed.

We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review. I am truly sorry about your disappointment and lack of understanding on my part. I should've communicated more effectively to you to explain the reasons for delaying surgery after radiation. It is my standard of care that I wait 9-12 months following last radiation therapy, as we know the skin continues to undergo changes sometimes reported up to 5 years after radiation. To avoid further asymmetry and unnecessary surgery, I wait until the breast have plateaued until I evaluate for symmetry surgery. That being said, I can agree that your breasts and nipple areola complexes are quite different and we expect some of that due to the changes that occurs after radiation that are beyond any surgical control. We would like the opportunity to discuss with you further your individual options if you can contact us as soon as possible.

Have you spoken with the surgeon to see if he can fix? I can certainly understand your frustration!
