I decided on a tummy tuck the day after my twins...
I decided on a tummy tuck the day after my twins were born in 2008. The opportunity never presented itself for me to have the down time necessary for recovery. I have always dreamed of having my pre-twins body back since I had them so young. Not to mention I live at the beach where everyone is in a bikini all year almost. I was so embarrassed by my body and I was very unhappy. After unsuccessfully trying to have the surgery last year I could not schedule the help I needed for my children so I passed on the opportunity. This February, I went again for the consultation and made my mind up to do the surgery regardless. I booked it for less than 2 weeks later! I paid in full so no backing out! I knew that nerves would get the best of me so I went for it! I had my husband available from his job and my mom scheduled to come help out. I prepared myself mentally for the recovery and the pain. After having a very difficult labor and c-section delivery/recovery, I had read this surgery was very similar but better because instead of being ripped apart for babies, I would be sewn up tighter! I can say my surgery and recovery was easier than I thought. The first night was hard because I was very sore. I made sure to walk every hour and stay on top of my pain pills as directed. I slept in a chair with a round neck pillow and a heating pad for weeks as it was a long time before I could lie flat. I took the pain pills for about 5 days and was ready to drive so I stopped them and it was not uncomfortable. Honestly the drains are the worst part. They made me very sore and uncomfortable at the spot. 7 days with them was hard and I was so glad to have them out. I made sure to clean my incision as directed and using essential oils, I healed very quickly. The only other bad thing I can think of was the back ache from being hunched over. It was more than 2 weeks before I could stand straight. Having a mind set that it was going to be rough for a few weeks and comparing this to my c-section gave me a leg up on this I think. I would do this surgery again in a heart beat and I'm so mad at myself for waiting so long to MAKE it happen.
