I have always had heavy eyelids, and now ever since my 40th Birthday they are wrinkled and droopy.
My right lays heavy on my eye and eyelashes to the point that I often hold it up with my fingers for comfort. Botox in my forehead exasperated this, especially on my right side. My initial consult with Dr. Harlow Hollis was comforting, he is warm and funny and very informative upfront, with possible complications. I am not concerned about the procedure, though I am concerned about side effects.
I have been waiting for 6 years and now I just cannot wait to get rid of these flappers.

Good luck. I just had my upper eyelids done about 5 weeks ago. If you have a good doc, your results should be great!

Oh thank you so much, I hope so. Nervous. Are you happy with your incision scars at the outside corners of your eyes? Also how did you manage the first day/night... sleeping etc...

March 29, 2017
They are still healing so still a bit raised but it's only noticeable to me. I was fine the first day/night. I even stopped for breakfast out on the way home! No pain at all and I used a wedge pillow so that I was sleeping with my head elevated. My lower lids swelled/bruised quite a bit so waiting for everything to resolve was tough; I looked pretty bad. I think everyone experiences that to some extent but mine I believe was due to previously having filler in my tear troughs. I would recommend to take it easy the first few days even if you feel fine which you probably will. I think I was up and about (at home) a little too much at first.

Hi and thanks... I will post photos soon. I think it's great, but difficult to tell at this point. Left eye is still numb and hard to close completely. The procedure itself was a cake walk for sure.

Don't recall exactly. I would say within a week, maybe two at most. This is normal within reason. And yes I experienced some tearing too. Hope that helps!

Hi guys, yes lots of watering. I am now one week in and and the watering has stopped however at time both eyes water up just out of irritation. My lids feel super HEAVY like I have weights on them. Getting easier to close left eye, but still now completely.

"Not" completely.
Hey Jules, how do you feel about the placement of your incisions?? I feel like mine are way too high, but perhaps too soon to tell.
I posted photos of my natural crease before the procedure.

Hi how are you doing? I am taking a long time to heal. Are you massaging now?
April 5, 2017
I did mine last June and the first two days I was puffy and sore but I iced every 15 minutes and by day three very little bruising . And 1 week I looked fine. I was 46 also.. they just kept getting droopier and more wrinkly ever year after 40 and actually greatly affected my periferal vision.. I will try to send before and after pics. Great results !! ICE !!

Thank you Danielle! I would love to see your photos. Are you happy with the placement of your incision scars??

Hey I just looked at your photos and omg you look AMAZING. In my opinion your incision scars look like they were perfectly placed. At this point I can see the incision while my eyes are open which concerns me.

What is it about 40. I've been living with a more than average amount of excess skin on my eyelids my whole life, but it really didn't start bothering me to the point it does now until I was about 40. I am 43 now and started checking RS out about 9 months ago. I had never heard of a Blepharoplasty until then and now I contemplate it, then sort of stop thinking about it, then I'm bothered again, and come back on, etc. The skin has gotten more stretched and hanging lower pretty much on my eyelash line at this point. This has really accelerated in the past couple of years. So, I know I am going to do something about it. I am looking tired when I'm not, I strain to lift my eyelids for the hours and hours straight that I work on the computer, and it's getting on my nerves.
I keep hearing I should go with an oculoplastic surgeon. I've found a couple of doctors on here that are within 3 hours of my home (Richmond, VA). I'm ready to call and have a consultation, but I guess my fear keeps me in procrastination mode. I guess I'm scared of being botched, too much fat removed or too much skin, and permanant scarring.
What made all of you finally decide to make the move and call a doctor. And, how did you go about your search?

Thanks, I hope this site helps you. My Mom had this surgery done at the age of 77 and it was amazing the positive difference. I hope it helps you to know that this procedure is very common now, almost like going to the dentist. Unfortunately there are some risks, I guess you just have to take a chance, but for the most part the major majority of these procedures work out well I believe. Very important to choose your surgeon. I hated my eyelids... they seemed to take over my whole face. Hard to wear make-up, etc... If I have visible scars (still struggling with that concern) then perhaps they are better than what I had before. A trade off of sorts?

Don't be afraid to travel for a good Doctor, you know it will be worth it in the end.
FYI I have a friend with excellent results from a clinic in Costa Rica. Rosenstock. Just an option. For the price your trip would be paid for :)

I guess the most important advice I could give you from my personal experience is make sure you are clear with the surgeon about the placement of the incisions/scars.
I say do it. You will always want to right.

Thank you for your thoughts and advice, The Cheerleader. : ) You're right, if I don't go ahead and start the process, I will continue to think about it, it will continue to bother me, and I will regret not having it done. Better to do sooner rather than go 5, 10, 15 more years being annoyed about my drooping eyelids. I just read that among people who have had this surgery, the success rate is about 90%, the rate meaning those that are glad they had the surgery. I agree that it's key to do plenty of research, find the right surgeon for me, be very clear about what my expectations are, and like you said, the incision lines, how much skin will be removed, and also fat removal should be discussed. Communication and understanding between the doctor and patient is so important. Then, of course become as knowledgeable as possible about post-op. From what I've seen, the aftercare can make all the difference with healing properly.

Yes, and the longer you wait the more skin and wrinkles you will have to deal with... which means longer scars. Apparently typically this procedure only needs to be done once if done at our age. That's comforting to know.

Unless I suppose you're still kicking at a hundred and four and it's getting difficult to wink at the 80 year old men in your retirement village.

Thanks very much. It'll be a year on June 12th. I can feel the scars but definitely can't see them they sit right in the crease . Sometimes I feel like maybe I should've had him take a little bit more, but I wanted very natural not so noticeable look . I found that 4 months after I took a bunch of pictures while I was on vacation in Italy I will show you some and I feel like my eyes look bigger but I've taken some recent pictures and they sometimes look OK and sometimes not I'm gonna be 47 on the eighth so I'm attributing the crows feet etc. to age

Hey! Welcome, and thanks for sharing your story with us. I hope you'll enjoy being a part of this amazing community. Your procedure is only a week away. How are you feeling? Please keep us updated so we can support you along the way. Good luck!
My Mother had this procedure done and she was left with this problem. She did not notice it herself in the mirror as it was most noticeable with her facial expressions, like during communication with others.
