WORTH IT$50
I am all about budget friendly beauty - enter the home derma roller! I purchased mine online from a reputable website (I’m in New Zealand). It came with a handle, carry case and 3 roller heads. 0.5mm, 1mm and 1.5mm

I’m a qualified Beauty Therapist so I felt very confident using this myself. I’m 29 with acne prone skin, I have discolouration and uneven skin tone and have light acne scarring - mostly around my mouth and jaw. Luckily for me wrinkles aren’t a huge concern right now but I do have a very deep marionette line on my right side which drives me crazy!

I began my treatment today with the 0.5mm roller all over my face and avoiding the eye area. The pain was tolerable and I didn’t need to apply a numbing cream, although the pain increased as the endorphins kicked in! I used the 1mm roller on my line and around my mouth and did apply a small amount of numbing cream in this area.

There was a very small amount of pinpoint bleeding with the 0.5 but this was barely noticeable. I had a fair amount of bleeding with the 1mm but nothing too severe and it subsided within a couple of minutes. I prepared my skin with a gentle cleanser and light moisturiser.

The aftermath - very red sunburnt looking skin which is sore but not unmanageable. I will update this with my next at home session! I plan to roll the faint stretch-marks on my stomach and thighs but need to grab a new tube of numbing cream before attempting this!

Can I use a at home dermaroller even if I have never had it done professionally?

Yes, you should do some research so you know which size would suit your needs first. My sister does it herself and is very happy with it, but there are limits to how often you can use different size needles and you should be well informed prior to using it so you don't harm your skin. Also, the .25mm size doesn't help you create more collagen as it doesn't cause enough trauma to your skin to generate it so you'd have to use a .5mm or larger and they don't recommend anything over 1mm or 1.5mm max for in home use.
