First, it is also important to mention that I had had had a facelift and eyelid (upper and lower) surgery 12 years ago, the year of my 50th birthday. I had consulted with three different surgeons at that time and selected the one who had performed a friend's surgery, and whose quote was significantly less the other two plastic surgeons. Buyer beware! Do not bargain shop for a plastic surgeon.
At 62, I could see that I looked a bit tired and that my face was not quite reflecting how good I felt from the inside. Over the years, I had seen Dr. Christine Rodgers repeatedly selected as one of 5280 magazine's most highly rated plastic surgeons so I decided that I would see her for a consultation. During my first meeting, Dr. Rodgers studied my face very closely and recommended that I have a facelift (one if my salivary glands has dropped and was bulging under my neck), that the outside edges of my eyelids tucked in together (my under eyes were droopy) and recommend a fat transfer to my face (I'm a slender person). While she never said it, the first two procedures were partially a result of a previous cosmetic surgery I had 12 years earlier by. It appeared that too much skin had been taken out from under my eyelids and my neck muscles had been torn during first surgery - a somewhat botched surgery. I was overwhelmed by her suggestions at first, but took my time to think about it and was allowed to see her one more time to further explain what she wanted to do and why it was necessary. She was so patient with me and so kind, and I could clearly see that she knew what she was doing. I scheduled and went ahead with the surgery shortly after the second consultation.
I am now a little over three months out after the surgery and am ecstatic with the results! I still look like the same person, just a lot more rested and refreshed. I have gotten a lot of positive feedback from family and friends, all of whom I kept in the know both before and after the surgery. Dr. Rodger's staff - from the front office receptionists, to the physician's assistants, to her paramedical esthetician and scheduling manager are all very wonderful, warm, caring people. The post-surgery after-care is fantastic - they will all take the time to answer your questions and get you in anytime request, as well as see you on your regularly scheduled post-surgical visits.
Final note - I am so happy Dr. Rodgers performed the surgery under general anesthesia and that I stayed overnight at the hospital. It was well worth it!

What did you do about the gland, was it removed? I have them too and whilst i didn't address them with my recent facelift, I think I will when I do it all over again in the years to come.
I'm happy for you! Thank you for sharing on RealSelf! Do you have any tips for others about to go through a facelift?
