I had this procedure over a year ago and it was the best thing for me. My motivations were not cosmetic, but functional. My labia were VERY long, so long that during an obgyn commented on it when doing a procedure (not in a negative way, she just said it was not normal and may be covered by insurance). it wasn't covered - but I would gladly do it over again.
I had first noticed something was wrong with my labia when I was 14 and trying to use a tampon. My labia were so long that 14 year-old me couldn't find my vagina. It also caused me a lot of pain. It would pinch when I wore pants, many types of underwear were uncomfortable. My labia would often fall out of my underwear, which was especially painful and annoying when I would exercise. By age 15 I knew I wanted this surgery and would do anything to get it. I just wish I had asked my parents earlier because they ended up paying for my procedure anyways.
I really just wanted to be comfortable. Yes I wanted my labia to look nicer, but that was not a huge concern. I ended up going with Dr. Grossman in Denver. He was significantly more expensive than the other doctors that I had consultations with. He also didn't have many before and after pictures for labiaplasty, but he was clearly a very skilled surgeon and so I went with him. I was under general anesthesia and the surgery took about 2.5 hours.
I was a definitely worried that Dr. Grossman would be less experienced in labiaplasty than other doctors in the Denver area. But he was an amazing surgeon and I could not have asked for a better outcome.
It took me about 6 weeks to be able to have sex and lift weights. It was still a bit sore the first few weeks that we had sex. After about 3 months, I forgot that I had even had the surgery. Which is amazing, because my labia bothered me every single day before I had this surgery. They caused me a lot of stress and every day I would think about how much I wanted the surgery. So it's amazing to me that I have completely forgotten what that's like.
I see this surgery gaining in popularity. And girls obsessing over their outcomes not being perfect and getting multiple revisions for the [RS bleep] star look. I don't think that's a healthy attitude to have going into this surgery. I think that's also why I'm so happy with my outcome; I didn't need to look like a [RS bleep] star. Anyways for girls who are suffering discomfort, this surgery is a life changer.
