I have always had a pretty good face with great cheekbones. However, I've also struggled with midcheek grooves or dents. Unfortunately their hereditary. When I was young they weren't as noticeable. As I started to age and lose fat in my face, they became more apparent. I've never had to get botox or anything else. I don't even have furrow lines between my eyes yet. I use retin A religiously and all natural skin care products. It's kept my skin looking quite young. My face besides the grooves has aged quite well ( thank you mom and grandmother) and I'm pushing 40 in just two years. I did start getting fillers about 2 yrs ago because of the grooves though. At first they lasted about 6months but each time since they only lasted 3 or 4 months. I started researching other procedures, from fat transfer, to sculptura, cheek implants etc. I probably saw 6 plastic surgeons within one year. All told me different things. The last facial plastic surgeon I saw recommended fat transfer. He said there was no guarantee with it though. I could either retain 70 percent of the fat or none of it. With the rate I burned off fillers, I wasn't taking any chances. So, I asked him about cheek implants. I had done lots of research and several people with my issue had success with them. So, I sent my ps tons of before pics of me young, after I started fillers, other people who had success with implants etc. He ultimately decided implants were the way to go. He was very upfront with me. He said he normally didn't do implants on people with cheekbones like mine. My cheekbones were already high and I had a good amount of fat in my face still, just not enough to cover the midcheek grooves. He said that he would do the implants anyways and he thought I'd like the results. I thought, well if the grooves are at least 50 percent better, I'd be in good shape. I decided on the implants and paid my deposit and set my surgery date. His office and everyone was great. He was a very kind surgeon. I showed up for my surgery and things went very smoothly. The nurses were great, my surgeon was great. After I awoke from anesthesia (which made me sick as a dog btw) I was in a lot of pain
Honestly, oxycodone wasn't touching that pain! The next few days my face was so swollen. I looked like a cross between the pillsbury dough boy and a jacked up 80's cabbage patch kid. It's going on 7 days now. The recovery has been harder than I anticipated. My swelling has started to come down on my right side, but my left is still very swollen. My face is very animated and I can't smile still. It hurts to laugh or make any real facial expressions. I'm hoping it gets better as the days/weeks go on. My first post op appointment is tomorrow. My mouth area still has very little feeling. It's as if my mouth is still numb. Plus I feel like I have heavy weights in my face. I get headaches more often and I feel like I have pressure in every part of my face. I will continue to update as the days go by. Is it worth it? I'm honestly not sure yet. I've read some horror stories but also some successful ones as well. I'm hoping my story is a successful one. I'm hoping I didn't ruin my face. It's a very scary thing to go through with. Oh, what women won't go through to stay young and beautiful?!

Recovery going slowly

First off, my post op went well. Dr . Weber said I was healing normally for where I'm at on days, but I do have a lot of swelling. I thought things were going well until yesterday evening when I started experiencing some intense pain in my upper left cheek area adjacent to my eye. I woke up this morning and the pain was worse. I put a call into my Drs office as in felt maybe the left implant had shifted. I'm waiting to hear from them. I did get feeling back in my upper left lip at least :-) I actually look more asymmetrical today too. I'm not sure where this pain is coming from though :-(
