Being transgender, trans-woman, I started with a...

Being transgender, trans-woman, I started with a VERY male face. I looked to surgery so that I could successfully transition from male to female. I had no intention of transitioning and not being able to pass as a female. Having seen how harshly many of my friends have been treated for wanting to express their lives in ways that fit how they felt inside, I'm complete aware that I am free to act and design my own life -- as long as it conforms to the idea of my birth-gender. Having to live my life according to someone else's notation for me, seems concerning. Our mental construct notions only the binary forms of human beings.
What follow will help explain my self, a bit (something I wrote at friends request)...

Androgynous Spirit
I’m am you, I awoke and took my first breath too…

Why was I not asked, upon arriving here on earth, in my early years, what activities I would like to perform? Would you like to wear soft clothes and cook for the family or build the roads we use and houses we live in? What affinity lays within you? So be it, that I reject the script placed on my birth gender; the intent of how I’m to dress, the governance of how I’m to behave — please stay inside the lines and think only as a boy should; oh yes, your free to be and do in your life as long as you move your body this way or that way, speak only like a boy should speak and absolutely never ever wear anything soft and cute — like a dress; absolutely, feel as though you have the right to design your life, please — only from the starting point illustrated for a boy though. It is almost as if the painter’s finished product is done, before the first brushstroke of my life is laid.

With the love and warmth of my friends and family I’ll look hopeful for the potentiality that my culture will one day ask me about my preferred expression of personage. Give me the opportunity to be in a more harmonious nature with that essence that I was before I took my first breath. I know this gift is difficult, not just for you! Being able to see in both directions, both male and female, is a sight that is unique, but identifiable? Is it not what you have always yearned for too? Before you, moves a reflection of you, of course, the you before you — were you — before you took your first breath.

The reality is that the more I pass as female the less opposition I'll receive, unfortunate part of SOME human beings character. My experience: the vast majority of those I’m bless to know in life are awesome and very supportive! I think we are so hard wired into male and female patterns that we have difficulty seeing this change. This is understandable to me, we have a long history of binary living (hee-hee). However, if we were monkeys, and the many forms before that just a million years ago, what will we be in another million years? Will the need to be male or female fall away? Not sure. But, the more I embrace both sides of myself, my emotional self, the clearer and more constructive I a in my life.

Having many options before me with regard to surgery, I took several steps to achieve my goal. Dr Menachof performed my cheek augmentation. With respect, the entire experience was something that should be written about in text books and used as a guide for future surgeons.

The bedside manner: the kindness and genuine interest the Doctor showed toward my concerns was up-lifting.

Listening to my directive: I wanted to proceed with making as little changes as necessary. You might find this odd, but I value, deeply, trying to be as natural looking as possible—even if I need to do something twice. I’’m patient, and a determined person to get what I’m looking for, so with this in mind, I asked for the smallest enhancement possible. Dr Menachof fully supported me, discussing the various options of smaller-larger sizes.

Recovery: I had a friend that went through the same procedure, cheeks augmentation with other doctor, and her after picture looked like she had two black eyes. Me, I went out to explore 2 days after surgery, still swollen, as anyone would be from this surgery, but much better off than my friend was at this point, by far!

Follow-up care: A close eye was kept on me by the staff via phone and by Doctor Menachof via visits. They where very patience and thorough in helping me and my post-support-friend (my friend) understand the potential issue that could arise and how to follow the post-care. Multiple post doctor visits were setup in order for them to physically see my healing progress.

My determination on Dr. Menachof practice/processes: I felt safe and in competent hands the entire experience. I have been through many surgeries and don’t make recommendations lightly, I’ve seen poor-unschooled-underdeveloped Doctor practices. You will find a Seasoned Professional and a pleasant person in Dr. Menachof. I hope you look to him with trust, he is worthy of it.
