Bone Graft - 2nd attempt, complicated case.

nfalter
WORTH IT$1,300
I lost my tooth when I was 16, and my parents decided to go with the cheaper option, a bridge. Now that I’m old enough to make my old medical decisions I decided I would rather have the bridge removed and replace it with two crowns and an implant.

The most recent phase of my journey was my second bone graft. A cosmetic dentist performed my first one (I had my gum line adjusted as well), but due to the fact he felt he couldn’t get enough bone in the area with a second attempt, I went to an oral surgeon that said he could.

The surgery was quick, about 30 mins. I opted for local anesthesia instead of going under due to the price difference. I put my headphones on and tried to relax. The worst part was them putting the needle in my gums to numb the area. The area is on the front left side of my mouth and I could feel it in the front of my nose when he shoved the needle in, my eyes immediately started to water.

There were obvious differences between the two doctors. The last one I had was significantly older and used different techniques. For instance, he took tissue from the underside (cut it out) and used it in the front. The surgeon used a synthetic material. I feel significantly less sore than I did the first time around, The swelling is always worse the next day.

Overall I would recommend this surgeon, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get the perfect smile, so the surgery was well worth the cost. Please feel free to contact me with any questions!

Hi,
I can sympathize with your situation as I faced the same. Glad you are now able to make your choices, and you do deserve the best as it is crucial for anyone to feel happy with yourself and I know for a fact that my poor dental history affects me still today. I am also spending money on my teeth and I can see it is worth. My confidence when speaking and smiling has improved 100%. May I ask the approximate cost of the bone graph? Is it per tooth?

Thanks for this. I am undergoing a huge full restoration. 22 crowns, 6 implants. I just went in today with incredible pain and found out one of the grafts failed. He replaced and hours later it is very painful. I question how good the tooth next to it is and if it could affect the graft. So much better than bridge work. My temporaries have 3 bridges and they are more to deal with than I would like to live with permanently.

I have had a lower left molar implant since last year. Now it has become loose and it hurts. Tonight all of a sudden I have a big lump under my chin on left side where the implant it. It looks like the tissue is receding and I guess I will need a bone graft. Can a lump like that just pop up in a couple of hours. I have no never or bleeding but the lump hurts a little.

It sounds like you could have an infection. I hope you've been back to the dentist/surgeon. If they can't completely cure the pain and lump, consider seeing an 'Ear, Nose & Throat" physician. They see a lot of cases of dental procedures gone wrong. Good luck.
