Deeply Regret Laser Genesis, Although I Was Told It Doesn't Go Deep
UPDATED FROM mes6890
Laser Genesis Cooked and Destroyed My Skin
Laser Genesis destroyed my beautiful skin. Watching my skin atrophy ever since has consumed the last seven months of my life. I have experienced steady fat loss and burning in my face since this one treatment. I noticed hollowing out near my eyes within 2 weeks. This has continued to this day. My forehead looks 10 years older, and I have wrinkles so deep (I had none before) that could never form naturally in the span of seven months. Clearly this ended up burning my skin and penetrating far deeper than I was ever told was possible. I am tired of doctors telling us these lasers aren't capable of penetrating beyond a certain layer. It is simply untrue.
Explaining how my skin is STILL self destructing this far out is hard. My best friend is a doctor and she suspects my body has been attacking its own cells in response to the burn injury. I will see a dermatologist soon, but on the old laser damage forum (yes, there is an entire forum of people who've been devastated by IPL and laser treatments) people have not gotten much consensus from dermatologists and plastic surgeon.
An MD with the latest laser training performed my procedure. It was 30 minutes long. Those 30 minutes have changed my life forever.
I will add photos later. I would give anything to go back in time and undo this. I wish I had gone the natural route with PRP. Please try that first if you are on the fence about this procedure. Please. As soon as my skin has stabilized, I will have to go to a plastic surgeon to see what my options are to improve all of this volume loss.

Deeply Regret Laser Genesis, Although I Was Told It Doesn't Go Deep
I noticed volume loss in my cheeks 4 days after my first (and last) Laser Genesis treatment. Today is day 8, and the loss has not stopped. My skin feels thinner; my forehead feels bonier when I wash my face. It is decidedly most noticeable around my eyes. I have been utterly devastated by this response. I elected to get this procedure to treat large pores.
I feel like most people seem to respond well to this treatment based on my research and the doctor's insistence. However, this risk of volume loss and skin laxity was not worth the emotional trauma this has caused me. Like others who've had a poor response to Genesis, my doctor asserted that this volume loss was neither real nor attributable to the laser. Regardless, I can feel and see the difference and do not believe I'll ever look the way I did before this procedure. I am not angry with the doctor. I believe he is qualified and experienced and likely performs this a lot with great results. Proceed at your own risk. I wish I had pursued alternative methods to achieve smaller pores. I have a feeling I will spend the rest of time wishing that. I looked very youthful. I am fortunate that I noticed this after one treatment (although I can't imagine NOT noticing it). I see it in the mirrors and in photos I've since taken.
Next we will try microneedling with PRP with cannula injections around my under eyes. I would appreciate if you all would send positive vibes my way!

Hello dear, it happened to me as well. Also after just one session of Laser Fraxel dual.
I know the volume loss is real because my father was the first one to notice after 3 weeks and then my mom after a month. I see it too because it is very very obvious.
It has just happened in the right side of my face. The other is still perfect. Weird.
If anything works for you let me know. A top doctor told me recovery might be possible after two years, but I don't see this happening :(
Hi I wanted to know if you're volume list have stopped ? I am also a victim and it's been 1 year for me and the volume lost continues.
I recall it started to feel obvious after one month, but I havent seen many changes ever since. Maybe it has improved slightly, as a matter of fact . Definitely not getting worse after the first year. But do not try to fix things with more sessions. Stay away from lasers. Best wishes, if you need help let me know
Thank You so much for you're response.
I am very sorry you are still experiencing volume loss. A very good doctor told me I would recover in 2 years. Its been 3 years and I am not fully recovered, but rest assured at some stage the volume loss stops and it gets a little better. Also, I work in a court and I asked my colleagues if they have seen trials due to lasers. Apparently there are many claims, but mainly for burns. I think volume loss is very difficult to prove
I am glad that you’re in a better place and appreciate you letting me know. I don’t know how any doctor can promise recovery. I think that’s utterly ridiculous considering the destruction of the fat in the face and that there’s no research or strong anecdotal evidence to support that the face would magically regenerate all that fat. But I am glad you found a doctor who listened to your concerns. I will soon need to find a plastic surgeon.
I understand, you are right. Back then I looked 24, now I totally look 35 (after a few months- a year) Good luck with the plastic surgeon, I hope it works. I am too scared to get any treatment right now, so if you find anything that works let us know.
I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I am also a "burn" victim from a radio frequency device. I have found that for me Sculptra has been the best at making my face look more like it did before. Please feel free to ask any questions. Sending you lots of positive vibes - know that you are beautiful and this will get better.
I’m sorry you went through this too and appreciate your response. So sorry. I am still worsening with every day. It’s surreal. How long did it take for your volume loss to stop?
Two months, I agree with olivemason. This is what also happened to me. After year two, it starts improving slightly
Hi. I wanted to see how you where doing with you're volume lost. Mine has been a year and it don't seem like it's stopping. Has it stripped for you? I am just so depressed.
Sorry I ment stopped not stripped
Hi mes6890 . I wanted to see how you where doing and has you're volume fat lost stopped?
I would say that it stopped for me after about two months. From there I started corrective measures by really taking care of my skin with honey masks, Trenton at night a few times a week, and adding collagen to my diet. Then I started having filler injections. Over time I found that the hylauranic acid fillers did not last so, that is when I tried Sculptra. I know what you are experiencing now is very distressing. Know that it will stop. Sending you all positive vibes.
Wow. I am so glad you found something that made you feel more like yourself again. I am trying to return to vigorous cardio exercise in the hopes that that will trigger any potential healing. Otherwise, it’s still very wait and see.
Hi again - how long after your laser treatment did you wait to begin fillers? People on the old laser damage forum advised giving the skin a full year to heal before trying fillers. My doctor (not the laser doctor but the one who’s validated the volume loss) has also advised that I wait a year to allow for healing and so I can do the PRP treatments to try and rejuvenate my skin naturally. It’s hard to imagine waiting a year for fillers but I want to listen to the doctor. Thanks so much if you have a chance to respond.
Hi olivemason I enter to see how you are doing with you're fat volume lost? I m a year now and it not seem like it will ever stop ? I'm just so depressed.
how long was your original treatment? 15 or 30 min?
30 minutes. Volume loss continues.
Do you have any photos to share
This happened to me also. First let me start by saying you are still gorgeous!! But I know...It really is disheartening! I was devastated when it happened to me too. It has been two years for me now. I had only one 30 minute treatment that aged my face at least 10 years. I was 57 and mistaken for late 30's early 40's all the time. Now at 59 I look like I am in my late 60's easily. I think the problem is that as we age we don't reproduce collagen the way a younger person would so the idea of destroying collagen in the hopes of rebuilding more new collegen is a very bad approach. I've heard PRP can help. I've yet to try it though. Youth is fleeting no matter!! Embrace your beauty and try not to dwell on it. You will be happier.
I will keep you posted on the PRP. My second treatment is in about a month. At what point after your treatment did you feel like the damage had stopped? Some days I wonder if my skin is still getting worse. I thought it had plateaued, but the volume loss is particularly bad today. I’m so sorry this happened to you as well. I went through hell and back with acne and Accutane side effects in my early 20s, so dealing with skin and side effects a second time has been traumatizing beyond words.
