almost 8 months post-op
So sorry for not updating! I guess the fact that I don't even notice the scar anymore made me kind of forget about the surgery.
I had a final consult at 6 months post-op. My surgeon said he's very happy with the results and so am I!
So glad I didn't listen to all the fear-mongering about scaring and finally went through with it. To me this was 100% worth it.
I think I've messaged everyone asking about the surgeon but please send me a direct message if I forgot you. fyi I'm in Europe.

10 days post-op
it wouldn't let me add more than 10 photos to my original post so here's two photos from day 10 post-op.
deep plane lip lift
I've gotten lip filler for years and was never quite happy with the outcome even after dissolving and refilling several times. At some point I realized that I wanted more lift instead of volume. I've tried botox lip flips for this but the effect was minimal.
My last time getting 0.5ml of filler (Restylane Refyne) was a year ago and a lot of it has dissolved by itself but there is definitely filler left and maybe I also have some scar tissue from getting injected for years (is this even a thing?). However my surgeon said it was not necessary to dissolve anything more before the surgery.
I've included an old before photo that my injector took years ago before getting filler for the very first time.
I had two appointments before the actual surgery where I was explained the details and risks of the procedure.
I started with a 16mm long philtrum and we decided to take off 5mm.
My biggest concern was that my nose/nostrils might look different afterwards but my surgeon reassured me that this would not happen.
I chose to have it done under twilight sleep instead of local anesthesia because I get super nervous and anxious.
On the day of surgery I arrived at the clinic at 8am and was given a room to put my stuff in. I got a bathrobe and some slippers. My surgeon came by to talk me through the procedure again and to draw where he would make the cut.
We again agreed on 5mm.
I was taken to the OR and they placed the IV in the back of my hand which was the only pain I felt for a split second. After that I can't remember much until a nurse brought me back to my room.
I already loved the results right after surgery. (So glad I took some pictures then because I needed them in the upcoming days for moral support lol)
the whole thing only took about an hour and I was told to rest for as long as I needed before getting picked up. I was given a first post-op appointment for 2 days later.
Swelling started 2-3 hours after the surgery. By the end of the day it was pretty badly swollen.
The pressure from the swelling felt uncomfortable but the pain was 1/10 so I didn't even take any of the pain killers I got.
I tried keeping my head elevated with a few extra pillows the first night to help with swelling and even though I'm used to sleeping on my back I only slept a couple of hours the first night.
1 day post-op
the swelling was pretty bad but pain was still okay. everything just felt very stiff and swollen and it obviously did not look cute at all. I kinda started to panic but *trust the process* is what I've read online.
I've also read an article in Psychology Today on post-surgical depression only a few days before my procedure and it came in handy today because I did not feel well mentally.

I could not eat solid foods so I had protein shakes and smoothies. After like 2 days I was able to eat things like yogurt, oatmeal and mashed potatos.
I tried to keep movement of the area to an absolute minimum to decrease tension. So no talking, smiling etc.
2 days post-op
slept much better and the swelling was slowly starting to go down by the evening. Started to look somewhat human again too. I felt better than the day before mentally.
The incision started itching and felt super gross so I was looking forward to have my surgeon look at it and clean everything and get new bandaids.
He said the incision was looking good and healing nicely already. I got an appointment to remove the stiches for 7 days post-op.
3 days post-op
swelling +/- the same. I looked a lot worse in
profile view than from the front. still no pain at all. I would have been able to go out in public unnoticed by now easily!
4 - 6 days post-op
During the next few days the swelling gradually decreased.
I got my hair washed and styled at the salon because I was afraid I'd get my face too wet by doing it myself. Highly recommend doing this. Felt really good to treat myself and at least have nice hair.
7 days post-op
stitches removed! I was afraid this would hurt but I only felt one quick pull and it was over.
My nose also looked exactly the same as before already.
I got new band-aids to protect the incision for another 2 days.
two weeks post-op I had another appointment and was now allowed to put healing ointment and SPF on it. He recommended to start very gentle massages while applying the healing ointment.
The incision was looking good but still felt very stiff and hard at this point but my surgeon reassured me that it was healing beautifully and it would most likely take several weeks to regain full movement.
He said I could go back to the gym 3 weeks post-op.
Initially my surgeon was a little hesitant about doing this surgery on a "younger" person (I'm 37) because of the scaring. I did everything I could to ensure the best healing process possible for me and in my follow up appointments he said he was very happy with the healing process and the results so far.
I was willing to take the risk of having a scar in the middle of my face and I'm super happy that I did. It doesn't bother me at all and I think it will be barely visible in a year or so.
I will have my next appointment 3 months after surgery.
What I did pre-surgery:
-stopped all vitamins/supplements two weeks prior. Started taking arnica and drank a lot of pinneapple juice around 5 days prior and during the week after. No idea if this actually made any difference but didn't hurt to do either
-stopped drinking any alcohol
-stopped applying all actives in my skincare routine to that area
-stocked up on protein powder/drinks, smoothie ingredients, yogurt etc.
-got a kids toothbrush (small head), micellar makeup remover wipes (Bioderma are fine. But I was SO happy to be able to wash my face/nose area properly again after a while lol) and healing ointment (I use Cerave because it's lanolin free).
-asked someone to pick me up from the clinic and let me stay with them/take care of me for a few days. I think if you get local anesthesia instead of general or twilight sleep you'll be able to leave the clinic much sooner and by yourself.
what I wish I knew before?
honestly nothing. I felt really well prepared after reading so many reviews of the procedure. Extremely grateful for everyone who shared their experience online!
I've tried to be as detailed as possible in my description because I get so anxious about medical procedures and find it helpful to read other people's experiences to prepare myself.
