Deep Plane Facelift
I'm 70 years old and two years post deep-plane facelift. My main concern on consultation was fat pockets on jowls and whether they could be removed. I explained that I did not expect miracles and only wanted the truth. Dr. K wholeheartedly promised that they would be gone, without any reservation. Trusting this, I proceeded. Once post-op swelling went down- it was clear that they were not gone and actually looked worse (I wondered if maybe the tightening made them more apparent). The left became more droopy and has a bulbous blob and my face is uneven. Dr. K advised to wait a few months and have filler- to help obscure them. I took that advice. His nurse applied filler and it caused lumps so I have not had any further treatment, fearful of making things worse. As the filler aged, the lumps lessened as but the bulbous blob and unevenness remained. Other doctors commented on the left-side droop and asymmetry. I did not have pre-op asymmetry and none was pointed out to me at consultation or after.
Over the next year and a half, I sent pictures and emails and returned to the office multiple times hoping for help. At well under a year out- Dr. K blamed the appearance of the fat pockets and lumps on "sudden onset" aging. There was no response when I said I thought that the filler made it worse. My own pictures (and the mirror) told the story (asymmetry which did not exist pre-op, fat pockets, lumps). However, the office pictures looked much better. Because of that, I requested and had new pictures taken in the office and asked for copies on the spot. I was told the printer did not work so they had to be mailed. When they arrived, again, the office pictures did not match my photos or mirrors.
I have since been advised that there should have been some buccal fat removal with the face-lift. When I asked Dr. K, he said that to do it now (or then) would cause "flaps".
Due to my experience, I'm afraid to do anything further and avoid mirrors.
