1 day post-op

I had my surgery yesterday. It was definitely very different than my first two. This one I have to say was a much better experience. The staff were all so incredibly nice at the hospital and they really took care of me. When Dr. Zuliani came to see me before the surgery, he marked my nose to prep it and also helped keep me calm and relaxed. He has such great bedside manners and is was so nice not only to me but also to my mother and my friend who were there with me.
They took a bunch of tests, hooked me up to an iv, put something in the iv just before wheeling me off to help relax me and before I knew it I was knocked out. I woke up to discomfort (which I expected) in my ear and in my nose. He performs an open rhinoplasty which I haven’t had before and he removed some cartilage from my ear to graft inside my nose. When the nurse saw that I was conscious she asked if the pain was tolerable- I said said yes but it was but still painful. She gave me a half syringe of pain killer (not sure what kind) and then they helped me get dressed and wheeled me off to my mom and friend. Apparently right after surgery I was still knocked out and Dr. Zuliani spoke with my mom and friend about how the surgery went. It took about 4 1/2 hours and he told them he had to remove an incredible amount of scar tissue. But it went pretty well over all.
I’m currently feeling pain in my nose and ear even with the pain killers he prescribed me but again, it’s tolerable. My ear looks super funky! I hope that it will heal back to my normal ear shape lol. My nose looks super lifted which is good because I wanted a lifted nose but it’s definitely swollen so it won’t be that high when the swelling subsides which I think will look good. I can kind of tell that my nose has much more structure compared to the last two rhinoplasties I had, so I have high hopes. To be continued...

Preparation for rhinoplasty

I’ve had 2 rhinopasties in the past so I have some tips and suggestions of ways you can prep for your surgery.
Two days prior to the surgery:
1. I used biore strips on my nose to remove all white and blackheads as possible. After cast removal you are prone getting a bunch of white heads or black heads. So to avoid this, it’s a good idea to try to remove all that dirt in your nose (just be careful not to hurt yourself or cause any scarring)
2. I gave my self a facial because trust me your face is going to be so dirty/oily and you won’t be able to wash your face until the cast removal.
3. The day before surgery- I gave my self a lip scrub because you are going to have very chapped lips after surgery because you’ll mostly be breathing through your mouth.
4. I also ordered on amazon a pillow wedge. This along with a neck pillow will help keep your head elevated at the correct angle it needs to be in.
5. I purchased facial wipes to wipe my face after surgery whenever I feel sticky or oily. I also bought chapstick to help keep your lips moisturized.
6. I also kept a notepad and pen near my desk to record all the times I need to be taking certain medications
7. You’ll also need straws and plenty of water.

***Warning- very detailed story/review***
I have been insecure about my nose for as long as I could remember. In middle school, kids nicknamed me 'big nose'. For so many years, I had to deal with having such a degrading nickname that followed me almost all my life. Then finally, I had made the decision to have a rhinoplasty. I spent so much time coming on this website researching the different doctors in my area to find the right fit for me. After having 5 consultations with 5 different doctors, I came across a doctor who had overall very good reviews and had multiple before and after pictures that looked like phenomenal work. So I scheduled a consultation with said doctor. He was extremely (I mean extremelyyy) confident in his own work and talent and said that even though I have extremely thick skin, my nose can be improved tremendously because he only does A+ work. This doctor had a very strong personality and for this reason I was always scared to speak up about my concerns. He just takes over and tells me what HE thinks I need and I just had to trust him especially since he did have a long of good reviews and his before and after pictures were absolutely breathtaking. So I scheduled an appointment with him in 2015. The surgery took about an hour or so and I try to block the memory of that experience. Let's just say- It was mortifying. After the procedure, I just remember crying from anxiety but I do admit it was an easy painless recovery. After the cast removal, I was so extremely disappointed. MY NOSE WAS HUGE! The doctor kept telling me that its extremely swollen and its going to take long because I have thick skin, so I needed to be patient. My nose did go down but there wasn't as much change from my original nose. Sure, it was lifted a bit but it was still the same size, crooked, and I had such completely different profiles. So after my 1 year post-op appointment, he said that he would do a revision and remove some of the scar tissue and narrow my nose more because he felt that even though he did amazing based on my type of nose, he could make it a little better. I was relieved because of how willing he was to fix my nose but I can honestly say that it was the biggest regret of my life. After a second rhinoplasty with the same doctor, I ended up with an even bigger, droopy, more crooked nose than ever before. I started to miss the nose I had before (which I wasn't even satisfied with). I'm a teacher and I actually get young students innocently ask me why I have such a big nose and if I damaged it or something. I don't think that if I didn't do my nose, I would have such young innocent children as me such questions. I felt so stuck with such an ugly nose.
Another year later, and here I am today in December of 2017. I made a consultation with Dr. Zuliani, who I had high hopes for since he has only amazing review on here. He was very kind and listened to my concerns. He was also very honest about my situation and how difficult it was going to be since it was going to be my third and since I have my dang thick skin that I inherited (eye roll). He said that I was going to be very swollen since it was my third and it was going to take a long time to come down. But after he emailed me my morphed images, I was pleased to see such a realistic difference, which made me very happy and confident about his work. I had my pre-op appointment over a week ago and he explained to me what he needed to do and that it was going to take 4+ hours and that he was mostly likely going to use cartilage form my ears and possibly my ribs. I expressed to him my concerns and I randomly started crying and saying that I just wanted a smaller nose- so embarrassing (smh). I'm hoping I came to the right doctor. My surgery appointment is in less than one week. I'm really hoping I can finally get the results I want and get rid of the biggest insecurity in my life. To be continued...
