5 Month Crossbite Update
My crossbite has been making great progress! I wanted to show a picture of my crossbite between the first day of braces and now. I’ve been diligently wearing my elastics...that’s definitely the key to treating my crossbite. The lower teeth are slowly pushing back behind my upper teeth to their correct position. I know this will be a long process and I still have a long way to go. But, looking back on the “before” photos is a great reminder that this will be worth it!
Anyway, my advice to anyone with braces is to wear your rubberbands!

Gaps are closing!
Today I had my appointment. They changed the upper and lower wires and I got powerchains on both the top and bottom. I wish I knew which size wires they put on me but all I know is that both are stainless steal. I got a clear powerchain for my upper brackets. I’m a little worried about the clear powerchain staining so I’ll be very cautious on what I eat.. so no red sauce, coffee, soy sauce, etc.
So along my crossbite, I was developing a few gaps. My ortho said these gaps were forming in order to make more space for my bottom teeth to be pushed back behind my upper teeth. After I got my new power chain today, I can literally feel the gaps closing! I swear the gaps closed by the time I walked to my car after the appointment. How crazy?! However, my teeth are sooo sore. But hopefully, that will go away in a couple days.
Here is a photo of my crossbite with the gaps taken on January 11 compared to a photo I took today after my appointment. The gaps are pretty much gone and the crossbite is almost non existent. I will post more photos soon!
My ortho said that he also wants to work on fixing my “canted” smile. My upper teeth are slightly angled so that is the next thing we want to fix. I am still wearing the same elastics... a crossbite elastic on my right side and the triangle elastics on the left (only at night)
Next appointment is in 4 weeks (Feb 15). They said they will only change the lower wires at this appointment. The next appointment after that is in 8 weeks (March 15)... they said they will change both the upper and lower wires at this appointment. Honestly, I don’t know the reason for this but I trust the process!
