I forgot to mention Dr. Brady's office staff. Everyone was exceptionally professional, prompt, kind and accessible.
Sex wasn't the same after 2 vaginal deliveries. ...
Sex wasn't the same after 2 vaginal deliveries. It wasn't bad. It didn't hurt. There just wasn't much sensation down there. For a few years I figured that was just the way things were going to be. But one day I did the math. Based on my calculations I was less than half way through my sex life. It didn't seem fair.
I met with Dr. Brady and we discussed options. She performed an exam and said I had moderate vaginal laxity. I also had a rectocele that was causing severe constipation. She could fix both in one surgery. So I decided to go for it. I also decided to have labiaplasty. My labia had always been ugly but I would probably not have ever done anything about it. But since Dr. Brady was going to be down there anyway.....
The preop and surgery itself were easy. I spent one night in the hospital (insurance paid for this because of the rectocele repair). I was pretty much in a post-anesthesia haze the afternoon and evening of surgery (surgery in am). I woke up about 2 am in bad pain that required iv pain meds. Dr. Brady had warned me this may happen as the local nerve block wore off. She removed the packing the next morning and I went home with a bladder catheter.
Post op day 1 and 2 were spent in bed with round the clock oral pain meds and muscle relaxants. These days were uncomfortable. Post op day 3 I went in to have catheter removed and Dr. Brady said she was pleased that I looked as good as I did. Each day got better after that and I returned to work 8 days after the surgery. By that time I was taking the narcotics and muscle relaxants at night only. It seems like the pain was all related to the vaginoplasty. I don't think the labiaplasty hurt at all. Or maybe the pain was just masked by the other. About 2-3 weeks later I did have some intense itching at the labiaplasty site.
We resumed sexual intercourse about 6 months later. The first couple of times were pretty painful. But after about a month, things were great. Not exactly the same as before kids, but 80-90% better than before the surgery. My husband and I are both extremely happy with the results of the vaginoplasty. And my labia look beautiful, too.
I would highly recommend a consultation if you are at all considering. Because, let's face it, there is only so much Kegels can do.
