I have my first consultation with the surgeon...

I have my first consultation with the surgeon today and I am so excited/nervous. I have a ton of questions and can't wait to start this journey! I am 5'9" and currently at about 250. My goal weight is 150 and I know that this will help get me there. I haven't told many people that I plan to have the procedure done, since I'm so young it's hard for me to admit that I can't lose the weight and keep it off on my own. People who don't struggle with their weight think it should be easy to lose it. Maybe once the weight starts coming off and the compliments start rolling in I'll tell more people. I'm anxious to get started, so naturally today is dragging by! How long should I expect to have to wait between the first consultation and the surgery date?

Awesome! You're in the right place for support. This community is amazing. If you feel confident enough, perhaps you could add some "before" photos. It's such a good feeling when you can actually see the difference once the weight starts to come off.

My surgeon has a 6 month plan. I have one appointment each month and I learn different things each time. I have my 5th appointment in a couple weeks and that one will be for calorie count. I'm nervous and excited on this new journey and I know you will do great. Everyone in this forum is so encouraging. Good luck to you!

Hi we're the same age well almost I'll be 23 in June. So it'll be nice watching your transformation sense I plan to get sleeved in May. Also I'm 255 right now. If you are paying through your insurance then the wait depends on their requirements. It can be a 3 to 6 month wait. You can call your insurance to get this information asap.. my insurance doesn't cover so I'm going to Tijuana, México. I"ve read great reviews about the surgery!! Best of luck to you and your new weight lose journey! :)

I was hoping to find someone around my age to see how it goes for them! My insurance doesn't cover it either but I have a hiatal hernia, so my doctor is going to do them at the same time, and that way part of it will be covered :)
Good luck to you too!!

Alrighty awesome he can do both!! Yes insurance is a joke smh. Lol I'll be posting my pictures and status too. So I'll follow you. One Big thing I recommend that a lot of people don't talk about on here with Gastric sleeve. You can experience hair loss so try to eat plenty protein. And take vitamin pills. People talk about it alot on YouTube. Hope that helps. And thanks. :)

First consultation went well!

My first consultation went very well, and I am ready to get the ball rolling for this surgery. My insurance has an exclusion for bariatric surgery (stupid Cigna) so it'll be a little more expensive but I think it'll be worth it! My doctor is very nice and seems very hands on with his patients, which I love! I'm going to try to get my EGD scheduled for later this week so hopefully the insurance will at least approve the repair of a Hiatal Hernia if I have one! Wish me luck!

EGD and RMR Test

My EGD and RMR test are scheduled for Friday! Thank goodness the process leading up to surgery is not taking a long time for me. If I had to wait too long I might start think it'll be harder than it will be! Now that things are actually happening my nerves are really starting to kick in, but it'll be over soon and all of the worrying will be worth it!
