Hi all,
I'm mainly posting this so everyone could see the swelling progression timeline over a period of one year. I could never find one when I was researching so I hope this helps someone who is stressing out about their swelling. I'm at one year post-op and still see swelling in the mornings, after I've worked out and even after I've eaten food high in sodium. I had an open rhinoplasty May 14th, 2014. I felt no pain-maybe a little discomfort from the splint but that's it. I was pleasantly surprised. I work in retail and worked really hard to minimize bruising. I don't know if my little remedies were the reason I didn't bruise but they can't hurt, right? I drank a lot of Gatorade to make sure I was getting all the vitamins I needed. I alternated hot and cold under my eyes and would lightly massage under my eyes to keep the blood flowing. I read somewhere that Apple Cider Vinegar minimized bruising so I'd soak that in a cotton ball and apply that underneath my eyes (nowhere near the eye as that might sting!). Who knows if it really worked or not? Either way, I wanted to do my best to avoid bruising so I was willing to try anything.
I really had no downtime. I wasn't in pain. I stayed home for about 7 days until the splint came off and then I went right back to work. When the splint came off my nose looked amazing. After a few days, it started swelling up which I expected. Don't freak out when this starts happening. It's a process to get the majority of the swelling down. I went about my daily activities as usual. I would clean by nose with the saline solution and q-tips in the evening. I probably yanked my stitches out too soon so try to avoid that.
In short, I would do it again but I'd probably be more specific with my plastic surgeon. I had a small hump removed and he thinned out my "boxy tip" so there is definitely great improvement and I'm happy! I would have liked the tip to be more refined but I may still have a little swelling so my look may change over the next year. Who knows! Either way, I just wanted to provide a timeline so people could see the changes over a year. Some are subtle and some are drastic. Hope this helps.

Thank you immensely for sharing! A lot of people say arnica montana helps with the swelling as well. Glad you are on the other side and enjoying your results. Very nice and natural looking.
