I had a simple Mommy Make-over. A tummy tuck with a breast lift, no enhancement, just to put me back together the way I was before my little ones came along. I will not bore you with the saga of my pregnancies except to say that emergency procedures during delivery made getting my stomach flat again on my own completely impossible. I was done having children and tired of looking like there might just be another one on the way no matter how much weight I lost or how much I worked out. I had also experienced serious stretching and sagging in my breasts due to breast feeding. I researched the mommy makeover and realized that the repairs I was looking for could all be done and all at once. It all came out great and was totally worth it.

Though it is an available and viable option, I did not use plastic surgery for weight loss or enhancement. I lost all the weight that I possibly could on my own in the 3 and a half years since my last pregnancy. Even still, Dr. Khan cleared nearly 5 pounds of fat that was tucked away unattached to musculature out of the crevices between where my abs used to be. She put my abs back where they go, my belly button back where it belongs, and removed some material, lifted, and pinned my breasts back to where they were before all of the nursing. I just wanted all my natural curves back and that is exactly what I got. I would highly recommend a mommy makeover, particularly by Dr. Khan, to anyone who is done having kids and just wants to see themselves in the mirror again.

Dr. Khan and her entire team are utterly fantastic. Both my husband and I are research nerds. When I decided that the Mommy Makeover was for me we set out and made a giant list of best rated doctors in Texas. We didn’t just use Real Self either. We started scouring the internet learning about doctors nearly a year before starting to book consultations. Every time we shortened the list, Dr. Khan was at the top. And she’s not only highly rated for her skill and experience, but for the entirety of the experience and the quality of her staff. Look around the ratings and message boards and you will find the names of everyone in those offices. There are a lot of 4.5 or 5 star rated surgeons, but there weren’t any others we could find that referred to every member of the organization by name review after review. By the time it came to consultations I had my top 3 doctors lined up, but meeting Dr Khan and her team just set the bar too high for anyone else to collectively measure up to. Hannah, the receptionist, greets you on the phone and at the door with the kindness of an old friend and the professionalism of a surgeon herself. Betty and Marlys, two of Dr Khan’s nurses have an attentiveness and concern that are almost preternatural. Betty called me on a Sunday just a couple of hours after I submitted my request to schedule a consultation and even answered her cell phone on vacation to answer a simple dosage question my husband had about my medication. Marlys has a perfectly sweet nature to simultaneously hear your concerns and belay your worries without making you feel silly for asking questions. Carrie was my overnight nurse and we had so much fun chit chatting during my first hours of recovery I hardly remembered I’d had a procedure until she’d make me laugh a little too hard and my sides would ache. She and I would be friends no matter where we’d met, but meeting her in recovery made it an easy night for me. Jason, the nurse anesthetist, kept me comfortable and safe and though I’m afraid of needles his touch was so soft I hardly noticed the IV. Dr. Khan is just the best. She is a ball of happy energy with great hands and a sharp mind all focused on getting me what I wanted. She did not try to up sell me, convince me of anything, or lead me down a path I had not asked to pursue. She met me and listened. She listened to what I had been through, what I hoped for, and what I wanted. When I was done explaining what I was looking for, she examined me and gave me complete and thorough feedback. I knew what to expect from minute one so that I could physically and emotionally prepare myself, my home, and my family for everything that comes along with recovering from a surgery of this nature. And beyond delivering physical results that please me, she’s perfectly sound medically. My prescriptions did not include opioids and I am not a neurotic “clean life” person who avoids prescription pain meds. If I and my doctor know I am going to be in pain, I tend to encourage the strongest dose of whatever pain meds the doctor favors that my body can handle. In spite of that, my post surgery discomfort was handled with ibuprofen for pain, a Benadryl at night to help me drift off, and a supplement of Tylenol for that last achy hour before another dose of ibuprofen for the first few days. Of course I was sore and needed a lot of help, but the only medication I took to recover from this procedure that was not over the counter was the antibiotic. So I have not been loopy, out of it, or misunderstood anything during my recovery. There was absolutely no possibility of dependency and my recovery was quick and textbook. It really was remarkable how quickly I made strides in recovery and I attribute that to first, Dr. Khan’s skill as a surgeon and second, Dr. Khan’s skill as an MD in her recovery instructions. Dr. Khan is a top notch surgeon, has a the most caring and competent team you’d ever meet, and the entirety of my experience was wonderful. If you need any work done and can conceivably make it up to Dallas, I strongly recommend Khan Plastic Surgery.
