Natural looking frontal was expectation - waste of money

Middle-age IT manager with lot of client interaction. I started balding around 2005 and finally got to a point where time was right to get a transplant done. Dr. Bishara and his staff operated on my out of their Southlake, TX office. Surgery was performed using ARTAS robot and overall the surgery went well. There was no complication following the surgery and I was quite content since everything moved along nicely. I got 2400 grafts and was given 9-12 months to attain full results. I patiently waited for over a year and unfortunately I hate to conclude that this was a complete waste of money.

I asked for density behind the hairline by focusing more grafts on the front part and less on the crown. I had severe hair loss in both areas but I had enough side hair to comb them over the crown but a natural looking frontal was my expectation. Maybe my expectation was too high to begin but I had repeatedly clarified my expectations and was told I had an excellent chance of meeting the requirements. You can judge by the pictures. All I can say is I have to go ahead and shave my head and keep it that way due to the bad look. Everyone who has seen me drops their jaws and expresses disbelief that I got a transplant. One of my close friends wanted to get work done and is now doubtful if he wants to follow through. The return on investment is $0.

Thank you for sharing your experience, I am so sorry it didn't work out for you. Are you thinking of possibly getting a revision?

Most likely. However I need to save up first and this time I will have to do a more thorough due diligence.

What was the cost of it? If you don't mind telling me. I have an appointment scheduled with the same doctor.

By the way, I highly recommend looking elsewhere if you are trying to get a hair transplant. Don't hesitate to consult with out of town surgeons. This forum has an abundance of information, so look for docs that have at least above average reviews. Beware of docs that are plastic surgeons and provide a variety of services (e.g. botox, tummy tuck and a buffet of other stuff) and hair transplant happens to be one of them.

Thanks for the feedback. If you were to qualify what went wrong, would you say that you needed more grafts than the 2400 that you got? Did any of the transplanted hair grow?

Masud 80 All of my patients are told about the possibility of poor growth and also the need for a second follow up procedure. I'm not sure about how or why the ability to perform Botox and tummy tucks has anything to do with being able to perform hair restoration which I also perform and do not delegate it it others. After reviewing you pictures, you actually have an expected result but you just need additional grafts. I'm happy to see you if you want to call and make an appointment this week. Dr B

I also had an ARTAS procedure with Dr. Bishara back in 2012. I was happy with the procedural process, however similar to your experience I asked for density in the front and did not receive the results I was expecting. In addition, Dr. Bishara over harvested the back of my scalp, leaving a distinct impression of a rectangle in the back. The only reason I paid for the higher priced ARTAS procedure opposed to a strip procedure was to be able to have a short haircut. I did not want to have a visual scar in the back from another strip procedure (I had two strip procedures prior to the ARTAS procedure), however due to the over harvesting by Dr. Bishara and the ARTAS procedure I can no longer have my hair cut short b/c the rectangle is too noticeable. I am definitely disappointed with the end result from Dr. Bishara.
